Year 11 Youth Ministry - Rubbish Report

Environmental report on senior area:

At Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College there is a need for a consensus effect to have a clean-up around our school. The school is surrounded by rubbish, there has been a large quantity of waste just picked up around the senior school and the back lawn. The waste that has been found around our school is disgraceful and is only due to the fact that students are careless.  Students should be encouraged to put rubbish in their nearest bin and if students do not adhere to this there should be repercussions.

Senior school building external:

Our group collected a significant amount of rubbish around the senior building, including broken glass, plastic, plastic bottles, paper tissues, and food wrappers. We had two bags filled up from all the rubbish we had collected around the senior building such as the areas outside the building near the cafeteria, at the end of the building where there are bushes and seats, and the forest area behind the senior facility.

The senior school students have a high accumulation of rubbish near the door opening to the oval. This can be due to the people that hang out in this location being too careless to put their waste in the bins and should be encouraged to put their rubbish in the bin. The introduction of bins being cleaned and emptied in a quicker, we can't blame all of this on the cleaners but the students need to take an incentive to clean up. Another location that was littered with rubbish was the hexagon area located between the middle school and senior school buildings.

The waste that was in this area was food rappers jammed in between the wood and heaps underneath with the students hoping that it couldn’t be seen. This can allow the young students to understand the restrictions on the community, wildlife, and even the expectation of people that come to our school believing it is a nice college.

Open area near the Year 9 and 10 space:

This area was littered with canteen food rappers and food rappers. In our school, this area has been committed for ceremonies and commemorations for special occasions but if this is littered with students rubbish this isn't going to produce a respectful area for this to happen. Students even have rubbish next to the bin and they do not make a change students miss the bin but don’t just pick up the rubbish and put it in the bin. In this area, there are not that many bins that students can put their rubbish into, if there were to be more bins then students that don’t put their rubbish into the bins then these will a consequence for those people and we will name and shame these students in front of the school.

Solutions and consequences in your school:

The solution for our school community is for people to put their rubbish in the bins, this will be better implemented through the increased distribution of bins that could be put more frequently around the school.

Conclusion:

Ultimately the area of the school needs to have the initiative to clean up. There is always a need for more bins in all areas of the college but we need to have more action in this area. The waste in our school needs to be at the forefront of our college leadership.

Year 11 Youth Ministry - Prayer for the Middle East

Yesterday, the Year 11 Youth Ministry Students wrote prayers for a peaceful solution in the Middle East. We sat in our college ‘reflection space’, and also took time to reflect on our college pathway.

Prayers for Palestine and Israel.

Heavenly Father,

We pray for those impacted by the Israel-Gaza War

We pray for peace among the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Please reflect love and hope into the hearts of those who are suffering and those inflicting the suffering.

Teach that violence is not the answer, but to respect one another.

We pray also for those who have the power to bring peace. May they be touched by a spirit of compassion and kindness.

Lord hear our prayer

Dear God,

We come before You, asking for Your mercy and direction in these difficult moments. We give our support to the people of Gaza and Israel who are suffering due to the unrest and violence. We desperately hope for peace, understanding, and healing.

Give leaders knowledge so they may look for answers that advance justice, peace, and the wellbeing of everyone involved. Encourage them to look for ways to promote communication and cross barriers.

provide comfort to those who are hurting and courage to those who are working hard to help the injured and deliver aid to those in need. May empathy and compassion win over fear and prejudice.

Amen.

Lord,

We pray for the civilians of Gaza, Palestine, and Israel, that they find safety in the midst of war, and that You will give them strength and comfort during this time.

We pray for the Hamas-Israel war to end without many more casualties, and that they may come to a peaceful agreement.

In thy name,

Amen.
