From Mrs Hodgetts ......

On Tuesday I was busy cleaning up around my house, when my husband called me to say the race was about to start. It is said .......that it is the race that stops the Nation, and it certainly did stop Mrs Hodgetts for a period of time!

How many people do you think stopped to watch the race on television?

Apparently, 1.35 million viewers across Australia. As I watched the race, I couldn't help myself from thinking how close this race is in location to our school. Given the students are learning Geography this term, I then found myself googling all the wonderful landforms and landmarks within a close proximity to St Mary's.

What comes to your mind apart from the Flemington Racecourse?

The Showgrounds, Maribyrnong River, The Clocktower Centre, Moonee Ponds Junction.......it is a magnificent location and such a wonderful place for our students to learn about the local area.

Of course, when 'Without a Fight' was celebrating I did get sidetracked about how the colours of the jockey are designed ...thinking that the yellow and black reminded me of a bumble-bee! I wonder what a St Mary's design would look like?

Victoria Coding Challenge

Last week, five Year 5 students had the opportunity to compete against a number of other schools in the Victoria Coding Challenge, hosted by St. Oliver Plunkett School in Pascoe Vale.

The event was organised by the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) in collaboration with Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria (DLTV). The competition had a total of 36 teams who worked on a variety of puzzles and coding challenges based on the real world which required them to work logically but creatively. The whole day was a lot of fun and our students conducted themselves extremely well throughout. It was a pleasure to take them and they should be proud of their efforts!
