Principal's Message
Thank you to everyone for making 2023 a success!
As the weather turns warmer yet remains unpredictable, we look back on a successful 2023 for Lynall Hall Community School.
This year began with excitement as we welcomed our largest cohort of Year 7 and 8s in recent memory. Throughout the year we continued to bring in new students (and Home Group teachers!) to the group, and we'll now be expanding to two separate junior home groups in 2024. Many of our future students joined us for activities week in December.
We made a significant addition to our teaching and learning offering with the introduction of our Flexible Learning Intervention Program (FLIP) in Semester 2. Students in this program negotiated an individualised strengths based program, with many of these students now stepping forward into their senior learning with confidence. This program will be expanded in 2024 to also include Year 7 and 8 students.
We look forward to continue to expand our programs with creation of a dedicated Year 10 program at our Coburg campus in Semester 2 2024. Stay tuned for further information next year.
On top of this, the Hands on Learning program at Richmond has also been a highlight, and we have now employed two 'artisans' to support the program in 2024.
Around the school, we continued to make improvements to our grounds and facilities this year. This was assisted by the efforts of school council buildings and grounds subcommittee, and we look forward to continuing this work in 2024, most notably planning a total refurbishment of the Richmond netball courts. Much of this work has been supported by our ongoing partnership with Incolink and a video celebrating this work is available on our school website.
Student Led Conferences were held for the first time in December. This model is designed to empower young people to take greater ownership of their learning and will be an important part of the way we work with young people and their families into the future.
The teaching year concluded with the highly anticipated return of our whole school camp. Students and staff spent five days in Walkerville, a short distance from Wilsons Promontory. This camp built upon the successful WILD and Advance camps earlier in the year. Students were responsible for setting up the camp site, assisting with meal preparation, and participated in bushwalking, beach activities and surf school. Well done to all involved.
Finally, Lynall Hall Community School’s request to rename its campuses has been approved by the Minister for Education. We will now officially be collectively known as Lynall Hall Community School, and each campus as follows:
- Lynall Hall Community School - Coburg
- Lynall Hall Community School - Richmond
- Lynall Hall Community School - Richmond House
Wishing you all a safe and happy festive season.
Regards,
Ralph
