World Teacher’s Day – Hat’s off to teachers!

Last Friday was World Teacher’s Day! A massive thank you to Kim James and all the parent reps for organising a magnificent morning tea for the teachers. And thank you to all the parents and students for joining in on ‘hats off to teachers’. The school was a buzz of excitement as we celebrated. Teachers at Solway work very hard, and do their utmost to provide high standard learning experiences for each and every student in their care. We thank them for all the time and effort they put into their students.

Donation

I would like to thank one of our families, who have made a very generous $10,000 donation to the Building Fund. These funds will assist the school in the next planned maintenance that includes the painting works for the remainder of the main building, year 2 classrooms, followed by the year 3/4 building, classrooms and corridor, asphalting and in the future, resurfacing of the basketball courts. With costs increasing for both products and services, projects such as these can take many years to prepare for. Thank you so very much for this very generous contribution to Solway Primary School.

2024 Budgets

On Wednesday, School Council began the 2024 planning and budgeting. Solway has been, and continues to be in a financially positive situation, where we are able to fund additional resources and programs to our students due to a surplus of funds in the bank. Over the past two years, School Council has made an active decision to draw down on our revenue and not increase costs to our families through increased contributions. Whilst we have had the capacity to do that for the past few years and again in 2024, this will be considered carefully each year by School Council to ensure we can continue to provide the high-quality programs our families expect.

Step into Prep – Commencing Wednesday 9 November

We are looking forward to welcoming our enrolled 2024 Preps for their first Transition session on Thursday 9 November from 9:15 – 10:30am. Parents are asked to arrive at 9:15 and when asked, bring their child into the Prep rooms, sign them in, before joining us for a cuppa and a chat in the Library.

Instrumental Music Performance

All students who have been learning an instrument this year with our onsite musical providers have been invited to perform a song at a school performance on Friday 24 November. This performance will be open for parents to attend and each student may bring along a school friend to watch. Classes may also be in attendance. This performance will replace assembly that week and will begin at 2:00pm (TBC).

Community Appreciation Afternoon Tea

Parents are invited to attend our Community Appreciation Afternoon Tea on Monday 11 December between 2:30-3:30pm. This is an important occasion for the Solway staff to acknowledge the fantastic support received from families and the broader community throughout the year.  No matter how small you feel your contribution may have been, we cannot continue to operate the activities and programs at Solway without your support and so please come along. Teachers go to considerable trouble to provide the catering for this event, in recognition of our appreciation of this parental and community support, so it would be lovely to get a strong turnout. We look forward to seeing you there.

Solway Carols Evening

All classes have commenced their preparation for the Carols Christmas Evening to be held on Thursday 7 December commencing at 6:00pm. Students are encouraged to come along in their Christmas attire, ready to perform with their classes on this very special night on the School Calendar. Students will sit together with their classes during the event.

Parents are encouraged to bring along a picnic dinner, rug or chairs, and to gather in front of the Performing Arts Stageanytime from 4:30pm, behind the students. We do ask that pre-schoolers remain with their parents throughout the night. Please note this is not compulsory, but rather a fun evening to get together and watch the students have fun!

Prep-Year 2 Athletics Day – Third Time Lucky

We are hoping to run our Prep-2 Athletics day on Friday 10 November, (finger crossed) weather permitting! There will be no Assembly that afternoon as the athletics will still be running.

School Yearbook

The Solway Yearbook is a prized souvenir of the year that has passed, celebrating each and every child, and each and the many and varied school events that have made up our year. We acknowledge achievements and occasions, we report on committees and school events, and value contributions from students staff and parents. It is a very special memento.

Each year a group of dedicated and talented parents and staff come together to share the load of the collation and design of the yearbook. This ensures the book has a real Solway feel and is one we can all be proud of.

We are seeking interested parents, who may have a flair for graphic design, and who may be interested in getting involved in the Yearbook for 2024. Please let us know, by contacting Lyn via the Office.

Thank you to all the parents, staff and students who have contributed to the 2023 Yearbook. Look out for the 2023 Yearbook, the committee are working very hard to make it another memorable item for every student to take home in the last week of term.
