Career Pathways

In a bid to foster inclusivity and encourage young women to explore non-traditional career pathways, a number of Ballarat High School's Year 10 cohort recently participated in the 'Headstart Women in Trade' event held at Fed TAFE.

The initiative, aimed at breaking gender stereotypes in the trades provided an opportunity for our students to try a diverse array of vocational opportunities.

The event was hosted at the Fed TAFE SMB Campus and allowed students to explore various trade-based careers and speak to industry experts, TAFE students and teaching staff about their experiences.

Throughout the day, students were immersed in hands-on experiences, trying out different trade skills, such as carpentry, bricklaying, automotive, welding, cabinet making, laser cutting and plumbing, under the guidance of TAFE teaching staff.

The practical sessions provided a chance for these young women to test their aptitude and interest in traditionally male-dominated fields in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The day concluded with a newfound sense of enthusiasm and motivation among the girls, many of whom expressed an increased interest in exploring trade-based professions as potential future career paths.
