Mandarin Newsletter – Week 4 Term 4 2023

Junior Level

It was the Mid-Autumn Festival at the start of Term 4, our Prep and Year 1/2 students all had much fun learning about this famous Chinese traditional festival. We read the beautiful story between Houyi and his wife Chang’e the Moon Goddess, and created our own Moon Festival collage. In Prep class, we have also been reviewing the numbers from 1 to 100 and colour words we have learnt before, and we continued with our topic on learning body parts using action songs and play-based language game. Our Prep students have also shown a better understanding of the functional language, and they are now more familiar with using gestures to help them memorise these useful phrases in Mandarin.

In Year 1/2, as we enjoy the beautiful Spring time with sunny weather, we have also started learning about seasons and how to describe different types of weather in Mandarin. After learning about the basic strokes in Chinese characters last term, our Year 1/2 students have now displayed stronger abilities of learning to read and write the common Chinese characters including the words related to seasons and weather.

Middle Level

In Term 4, our Year 3/4 students continued to practice their functional language with gestures as well as the high-frequency classroom words and phrases. We have also created our own vocabulary for classroom items, and will start using them during our Mandarin lessons. It is great to see the majority of the students have developed great fluency in their spoken Mandarin, and we will also begin to use Pinyin and tone marks to practise syllables and tones in the following weeks when we encounter new words in our learning.

Senior Level

In our Year 5/6 Mandarin lessons, for functional language, we have been learning about phrases and sentences for quick interactions, and our senior students have displayed a much better understanding of those tricky long sentences with the help of using gestures. Along with the exploration of the formation of common Chinese characters, we have also started discussing the topic of our daily life, and will be learning about how to describe our timetable and school life in conversations.

Student Dance Club Newsletter – Week 4 Term 4 2023

Following two successful performances at the assembly and the Trinity Art Show, members of the Trinity Dance Club have also joined Drama Club with Ms. Stanton to perform at the Spring Fair held at the Dame Nellie Melba Kinder. It was great to see our students showcasing their talents and building the connection with our local communities. Thanks to Ms. Stanton for organising the event for all the students. We all had great fun!

Student Dance Club will run as usual in Term 4, and we welcome all students who are interested to have a trial session with us. We will mainly be learning and practising the foundational dance moves this term to further enhance our dance skills. It is very beginner friendly!

Please note the following important information regarding the Student Dance Club in Term 4:

*Student Dance Club runs on Thursdays at 1:45pm (second break) in the MPR (no previous dance experiences required).

*Students who are interested can still join in Term 4, and are more than welcome to have a trial session first.

*After the trial session, students who would like to officially join will need to make a commitment to it.

Sincerely,

Mr. Su
