Dear Skye Families,
What a big fortnight it's been at Skye! We’ve had a series of exciting events, starting with an unexpected visit from 'Beebop' the runaway pig, who gave many of our staff, myself included, a run for our money. It was a different way to begin the week but nice for the school to feature so prominently on the evening news with some hearty chuckles from the legendary Peter Hitchener.
The Skye PS inaugural Art Show last Wednesday was a huge success. The quality of artwork exhibited by our students was fantastic, transforming our indoor spaces into what felt like a professional art gallery. The event was well attended, fostering a wonderful sense of community. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Jac Jackson, for the countless hours dedicated to the organisation of the event. Additionally, a big thank you to our staff for their assistance and to our wider community for your ongoing support.
Congratulations to the following students for achieving Silver Award status for demonstrating exemplary behaviour at school:

As previously communicated, we have recently concluded a thorough Tender process to review the Outside of School Hours Care Program at our school. As a result of this process, TeamKids were selected as the new OSHC provider. The TeamKids OSHC service will commence in the Summer School Holidays 2024, on the 8th of January, 2024. We are confident that the partnership that we now have with TeamKids will benefit all students and families at our school.
There will be a parent information session webinar hosted on Wednesday 22nd November at 6:30pm (link to be sent a week prior) as well as an opportunity to chat in person with the TeamKids staff on Thursday 23rd November between 7:30am - 9:30am (details to follow). Please find the attached documents below for further information about the service.
Our class formation process continues with the aim of creating optimal environments where each child can thrive and reach their full potential. As per our Class Placement Policy, we provide all students with the opportunity to list friends they feel they work productively with. Our teachers then put considerable effort into ensuring that social, emotional, and academic needs are met when classes are re-formed. If you have specific concerns or considerations you believe should be taken into account for your child’s placement in 2024, please communicate these via email to timothy.bernau@education.vic.gov.au by Friday, 10th November. While we can't guarantee all requests will be met, we assure you they will be carefully considered.
I'm pleased to inform you that work on the senior toilets is progressing well. We're excited about the enhancements and look forward to the subsequent refurbishment of the junior toilet block. These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best facilities for our students.
We've warmly welcomed our 2024 Foundation students for their early years interview over the last fortnight, which they've approached with healthy doses of eagerness and enthusiasm. The first session of 'Step into Prep' was hosted this week in the Gym with a large number of future students and parents attending for storytime and craft. The students even left with a surprise t-shirt!
Have a great couple of weeks!
Warm regards,
Tim Bernau
