Connect: Year 4

Dear 4A and 4B Families,

Congratulations to all the students on their terrific art pieces that went towards forming an excellent art show. We thank you for coming along to view all the pieces, experiencing some art activities and strengthening our community.

BOXES BOXES BOXES

The students will be conducting a wind experiment next and need to create a wind tunnel. To do this we need boxes, boxes bigger than shoes boxes/cereal boxes would be ideal. If you have any to spare, could you please send them to school with your child. Thank you.

Unclaimed CAMP items

Please bring me home! I am missing you so much!

Do you recognise any of these items?

Could you please double check if your child accidently brought home items belonging to one of their cabin mates? Thank you.

Our Learning

Literacy

  • We are refining our Book Club roles.
  • Students will recognise and explain how a character's personality evolves over a story.
  • Students will plan, draft, write and edit a narrative (story) using the narrative mountain text structure to guide the process.
  • The students are learning the meaning of homophones and how to accurately spell contraction words.

Maths

  • Students will recognise and show equivalent fractions.
  • We have been looking at the etymology of the word equivalent, and that it shares the same family tree as equals.
  • Investigating multiples will continue to be a focus over the next few weeks.
  • Our non number focus will be converting between units of time. Did you know?

Inquiry

We are staying with a science focus but shifting domains from physical science to earth science. With many fascinating areas fitting under the umbrella of earth science we have narrowed down our focus to 'Changes to Earth's Surface'. Why? Because through a deeper understanding of how the Earth's surface changes over time, we can appreciate the beauty and complexity of the planet and the importance of protecting it. We will investigate the changes to Earth's surface caused by water, wind and human activity, and how to prevent erosion.

Wellbeing

Is a continual focus on developing a deeper understanding of the 'Zones of Regulation'. We will be broadening our view to look at our emotions over a whole day/week and mapping how we move in and out of the different zones throughout the day/week.

Celebrating our Learning

Last week the students learnt about water erosion and how it impacts our Earth's surface. Each group created a model landscape made out of sand and rocks. They then experimented with water to create and restrict erosion.
