Welcome to another edition of Connect! We have been busy diving into learning this past fortnight. Can you believe next week is Week 5?

Next week we have a visit from St John's Ambulance. They are going to teach us some basics of first aid to our students. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Taryn Clough.

Just a quick reminder about READING.... please continue the amazing reading at home. The students can enter their own reading in the log. This reading is important to expand their experiences and comprehension skills. Please contact us if this is a challenge and we can support you.

What's happening in our classrooms?

Literacy: During our Reading and Writing sessions we have started to explore the concept of poetry. We have exposed the students to a variety of styles and have even had a go at writing some! As you can see below, poetry is a wonderful genre as it allows a persons creativity to flow. Last week we explored detailed acrostic in Writing and this week it has been all about the cinquain! Ask your child about what they have learned.

Maths: We have entered our topic of 'Chance and Probability'. The students have revised the language when we talk about the likelihood of events and outcomes. We then conducted small experiments which help us work out the chances of future outcomes. We played rock paper, scissors and learned some new games which have been so much fun!

Inquiry: After conquering the ART show last week, we started immersing the students in our new unit of 'First Contact'. The students blew us away with their empathy and thoughtful questions when discussing the points of view of the First peoples and the convicts' experiences on the ships. The students have completed a pre test and are ready to investigate about our important history and how we came to be as a nation. See the Behind the News episode below which covers some elements of the First Fleet

Wellbeing: We have continued on our journey of understanding ourselves, our emotions and how we flow through them throughout the day. This past week we have been looking at our triggers! Understanding our triggers helps us because it allows us to use strategies we have learned to guide ourselves through those tricky moments. This work will drive our wellbeing sessions throughout the next fortnight and we are going to have a go at tracking our zones for a whole week!

A celebration of our AMAZING Art Show...

WOW... what an afternoon. What amazing students and artists we have! We would just like to extend a very big thank you to all of you who attended the art show. We were blown away by the support and were so thrilled with how our exhibition turned out. A MASSIVE thank you goes to our beautiful aide Carly, who helped our students create these masterpieces, as well as display them. Here is a brief recap of our amazing art below!
