Sport and Campus News

Pedal Prix

Our Pedal Prix community is off and racing for the 2024 season with our first race held on the 15th March in Mount Gambier with 23 of our experienced riders attending. It is wonderful to see so many of our Campus students continue to be a part of our team once they move into high school, flying the campus flag with pride! We have 35 riders this year with a new team of Year 5 and 6 students joining us for their first time. We wish them success and to remember our moto - Rule #1 Have Fun!

We have 2 major sponsors supporting us this year and our trike names represent this support. Go Sunny Solar continues to support us with our senior riders in trike 'Sunny'. Co-owner John Paget is a Pilgrim Grandparent and we are very grateful for his continued support. Please contact Go Sunny Solar for all your solar needs!

A new sponsor this year is from a past Pilgrim student and Pedal Prix rider Chris Evans who owns the local Dominos Pizza franchise at Aberfoyle Park (and makes the best pizzas!). He is extremely excited to be supporting his old team and has thought of many ways to support us, including the upcoming 'Doughraiser' (read the flyer on the next page of this newsletter for more information) to coincide with our local car wash on Saturday 27th April. We look forward to showcasing our trike 'Dominator' this season.

We also thank sponsors Trump Trikes, Repco 24/7, Jayco Adelaide, Snap Printing and Campus parent Lee Jackson for his support with Diverse Water solutions.

Good luck Campus Tornadoes!

Sapsasa Athletics

The Sapsasa Athletics Carnival was held at the SA Athletics Stadium on Thursday 28th March. Pilgrim had 14 students represent the school in a fiercely contested Track and Field Carnival. Some notable results included Levi T's 4th place ribbon in Discus, Sienna B making the finals of the 200m and 100m races, and with Sienna V making the finals for the 200m race. Ashton came 1st in Long Jump. This result means Ashton will be invited to compete at the State Athletics Carnival later in the year.

Congratulations to the following team members, who represented Pilgrim with pride:

Sienna V, Grace, Sienna B, Emilie, Aria, Joshua W, Zach R, Max M, Ben P, Ashton, Eli B,

Levi T, Brodie, Levi Th.

Premier's be active Challenge

Pilgrim School is running the Premier’s be active Challenge in 2024. The Premier’s be active Challenge is a physical activity program introduced by the Premier in 2007 to:

  • encourage students to be more active more often
  • improve the health and wellbeing of South Australian students.

Guidelines to complete the Premier’s be active Challenge:

  1. Every student must have their activity recorded in the student recording booklet. These will be distributed by the school once a permission form has been returned.
  2. Complete at least 60 minutes of physical activity on at least 5 days of the week for at least 4 weeks between Week 1 Term 1 and Week 10 Term 3 and record it.
  3. Students must have their record verified by a parent, caregiver or teacher.
  4. Pass on the completed Student Record to the Front Office by the designated due date.
  5. Receive an award in late November.

Research has shown that parental support makes a difference to how active children are. One of the biggest factors in helping children to be active is providing support to participate in physical activity. Whether that is getting them to sports, taking them to the playground, riding your bike with them or simply encouraging them outside to play, these are all things that will help your child to be active.

The Premier’s be active Challenge is most successful when parents show interest and support their children. Help your child get 60 minutes of physical activity per day and you will be making a positive difference to their future. It’s also a great way to be more active yourself!

If you would like your child/children to participate in the Premier’s be active Challenge, please return the reply slip by the end of Term 1 (Thursday 11th April) to receive a recording booklet.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.

Kind regards,
