Wellbeing at EPS

Supporting the wellbeing of our Essendon Primary School community

The Resilience Project (TRP) provides 1000+ schools across Australia with a program that promotes evidence-based, practical strategies that help young people to develop resilience. Essendon Primary School’s partnership program is set to begin in Week 1 of Term 2, consisting of online presentations and weekly lessons that teach positive mental health strategies for building students’ capacity to deal with adversity. EPS students from Foundation level through to Year 6 will begin engaging in learning about the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM), and Emotional Literacy

Each child will receive a TPR Student Journal which will be used in conjunction with the weekly lessons delivered during the Wellbeing Specialist hour for each homegroup. To help schools embed TRP into the school’s daily practice, G.E.M. Chats have been created to coincide with the weekly lessons to provide daily opportunities for students to improve their mental health. Homegroup teachers will begin to weave G.E.M. Chats throughout the day, for example during Welcome Circles and end of day routines, as EPS’ continue to build our whole-school approach to positive wellbeing.

It is important to note that this program is an important part of our school’s effort to look after the mental health of our whole community. If you wish to find out more about how G.E.M. Chats or TRP core principles, please check out TRP@HOME. This Parent & Carer Hub is a place filled with inspiration and activities to help the whole family to continue conversations of improving wellbeing and building resilience beyond the classroom. The content on this hub is designed to engage families in the program through entertaining storytelling, animations and music.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a series of short videos to introduce the key pillars of resilience: Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness. You’ll hear stories and gain access to activities to show how these strategies when practised regularly can support children's learning and development, and also you as parents and carers.
