Fuelling for Performance

The Role of Nutrition in Athletic Success

A reflection on the educational evening with Brittney Andreola, Dietition

On 15 February, our Ivanhoe Edge families attended a wonderful information evening with Brittney Andreola, Dietition, presenting about the role of nutrition in athletic success.

Brittney shared how nutrition is the bedrock of athletic prowess, influencing an athlete's growth, strength, endurance, and overall well-being. Her talk affirmed the pivitol role nutrition plays  in maximising athletic potential, both individually and as part of a team.

The talk covered how athletes rely on nutrition for multiple facets of their performance. The four key areas for nutrition in adolescence discussed were:

  • Growth and Development - providing essential nutrients for optimal growth and development
  • Health - boosting immunity and supporting mental health
  • Fitness - enhancing speed, strength, agility, and endurance
  • Performance - optimising athletic performance and recovery.

Brittney also covered some nutrition essentials for athletes including:

  • the role of nutrition in becoming a better athlete and team mate
  • addressing nutrient deficiencies
  • foods for energy and growth
  • key nutrients of concern
  • pre-game meal strategies
  • recovery nutrition
  • hydration guidelines
  • supplement consideration.

In the competitive arena of athletics, nutrition serves as the cornerstone of success. By prioritising proper fueling strategies, hydration practices, and recovery protocols, athletes can unlock their full potential and achieve peak performance, both individually and collectively as part of a cohesive team unit.

Brittney reminded us that 'every bite and sip shapes your journey towards greatness on the field or court'.

This was a wonderful first Ivanhoe Edge Information Sessions. We look forward to sharing details of upcoming workshops and sessions planned for the rest of the year, in Term 2.
