What a privilege and blessing it is to be part of the DCS community. This morning we have seen students return from their holidays in readiness for another exciting term of learning and community at DCS.
Term 1 set up the year spectacularly and the Primary teaching and support team have been busily preparing for the term ahead, setting up classrooms, planning engaging lessons and praying for each and every student.
During the Monday Assembly in Week 2 we will be introducing the new character trait, Initiative. Character First defines Initiative as 'recognising and doing what needs to be done before I am asked to do it.' Throughout the first five weeks of term we will be focusing on the below 'I will' statements that help us apply initiative in everyday situations.
The five 'I will' statements are:
On Thursday 25th April, the DCS community came together with the Devonport Community to participate in the Anzac Day March and Service. The march was from the Devonport Fire Station to the Devonport Cenotaph. Around 20 DCS students took part with our school captains laying a wreath on behalf of the school. During the service several people also shared a speech about what Anzac day means to them and the Right on Cue choir lead us in hymns and Advance Australia fair.

2025 will see the third year of Year 7 at Devonport Christian School. Since commencing in 2023 we have seen our Secondary school flourish, with exciting and innovative programs providing exceptional learning opportunities for our Secondary students. Our Secondary school is growing in numbers and planning is well underway for our new Year 9 and 10 Centre which will provide an additional learning space for our secondary students, and in doing so open up more areas for our Year 7 and 8 students.
We will be hosting two information sessions on Thursday 2nd May from 3.30-4.30pm and Friday 3rd May from 1.45-2.45pm in the JILOA Centre. While these sessions are particularly for those who may have missed our information evening earlier this year, all parents of Year 5 and Year 6 students are invited to come along to hear about our commitment to continuing our DCS learning culture and community into the secondary years.
Our Learn to Swim campaign commences tomorrow, Thursday 2nd May, for students in Prep-Year 2; and Thursday 9th May for students in Year 3/4.

This year National Walk Safely to School Day is being held on Friday 10th May. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather as the DCS Community with our families and friends.
We will be meeting at the Splash carpark ready to leave at 8am and walking to school together via the walking track. Once we arrive at school, Breakfast Club will be open for breakfast treats and hot drinks.
But wait…there’s more!
All parents who wish to stay on for assembly can catch the DCS Bus back to Splash! The bus will be leaving from the Secondary area after assembly from 8:45am to get you back to your car if you wish. Otherwise, enjoy the walk back along the Don tracks at your leisure.
All families are welcome to attend! As this is a community event it is expected that students will walk under the supervision of their families.
This event will be weather permitting. Families will be notified via Schoolbox and Facebook should we need to cancel.
We are looking forward to a great morning!
Primary students would like to welcome family and friends to come and join them at school on Monday 13th May from 8.30am-10.45am.
Please join us for assembly at 8.30am, open classrooms at 8.45am and followed by morning tea in the JILOA Centre at 10am, concluding the morning at 10.45am.
As we launch into Term 2 we just wanted to remind you of the Term 2 uniform changeover for Prep to Year 6. Students are welcome to wear either summer or winter uniform for the next two weeks as we transition into the winter uniform. Students are required to be in full winter uniform by Monday 13th May until the end of Term 3.
Hats are no longer required until Term 4 however optional DCS beanies and scarves are available to purchase from the front office.
Uniform sales are available throughout the term and you are welcome to access the DCS Community Cupboard for uniform needs for your family or to support other DCS families. Uniform donations toward the Community Cupboard can come in through the front office. There is also a DCS Community Uniform Facebook Group for buying, selling or giving away uniforms. Please contact Jasmin at: thompsonj@dcs.tas.edu.au if you wish to get connected on this platform.
