Year 1 News

Math
Students have been learning about two dimensional shapes (2D). We described the features of different 2D shapes by looking at their vertices and sides. We read some Math stories and engaged with concepts, such as “The Greedy Triangle”, and “Not a Box”. We have also made lots of 2D shapes and a combination of shapes using popsicle sticks, playdough and pattern blocks. We went for a shape hunt around the classroom and the school, and we noticed that there are a lot of rectangular objects in the school!
Writing
We learnt how to write a recount of the Labour long weekend by zooming into one specific event that happened during the time. The students then drafted their weekend recount using words such as first, then, next and finally.
Next they drew their weekends on a sunglass shaped template, then publish their writing on these sunglasses. They students have loved and enjoyed this writing project, they have all put in a lot of effort to make their sunglasses look cool.
