Principal's News

Mrs Naomi Corfield

Acting Principal

Dear Parents,

Although it has been a short week, it has certainly still been busy! I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and managed to survive the heat. A reminder to please send a water bottle to school every day so that children can remain hydrated. Water helps our brain cells to communicate with each other and stimulate memory processes. Water also clears out toxins and waste that can inhibit brain function. It is vital that our students have access to their water bottles in the classroom so they can rehydrate when feeling sluggish or in need of a brain booster.

Congratulations to all our year 3 and 5 students who completed Naplan over the last few days. All students approached the tests with integrity, maturity and a sense of pride. It was wonderful to see their joy upon completion of each test and humbling to hear them share with each other how they approached each task. There is no doubt these children were well prepared for Naplan, at home and school, as they all came in confident and ready.

Thank you to the teachers for helping develop their positive mindsets and encourage all the students to do their very best. We were very grateful to the rest of the school for being respectful during the testing times so that the year 3 and 5 students could concentrate and complete their assessments without interruption.

On Wednesday, Miss Dullard accompanied four of our Year 5 Dolphin Research Institute Ambassadors to Sorrento for the 'i sea, i care' excursion. Tayla, Caleb, Peter and Ruby were very fortunate to see dolphins and seals as they engaged in swimming, snorkeling and sightseeing on the Moonraker Charter.

We also thank Miss Dullard for taking the Year 6 leaders to St Patrick's Cathedral for the Catholic Education Week Mass for all Victorian Primary and Secondary Catholic schools. This is always a special experience and is followed by a picnic and concert in Treasury Gardens. Thank you Miss Dullard, Maddison, Evan, Riley, Joe, Charlotte, Shalise, Axel, Steele, Olivia and Anne for representing St Mary's School.

Congratulations to Charlotte Eccleston who represented St Mary's at the District Swimming Carnival at YAWA. Charlotte competed in the freestyle and butterfly and swam really well. We are so proud of you, Charlotte. It takes a lot of dedication to train and bravery to compete at these events.

We have our first Reconciliation Parish Commitment Mass on Sunday at 10am. It would be wonderful if you are able to attend to support these families as they continue on their faith journey.
