Week 9 Term 1

STEM

STEM will be a modified program this week due to planning week. Those that have STEM will be designing some wet weather day activities for their class to share. 

 

Visual Arts

Prep

There will be no Prep Art this week because of planning week and the short week due to Good Friday.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be finishing the plaster on their bunny sculptures and adding colourful patterned papers to decorate using the decoupage technique. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be creating an Anzac picture. They will start with a guided drawing of poppies and then cover their work with the words ‘Lest We Forget’ before painting in the negative space around the letters. 

 

Grade 5/6

Students will be looking at images of the Anzacs and creating picture for Anzac day using only charcoal and white paper.

Auslan

Prep

Prep students will continue to explore the signs for the colours of the rainbow, particularly blue, purple and pink. They will also follow instructions signed to them in Auslan to colour an specific image.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will complete a matching activity to help them recognise signs for common objects in the classroom. They will also complete this term’s Learning Snapshot demonstrating how to sign the phrase, ‘Can I have…, please?’

 

Grade 3 to 6

This week students will commence completing their Learning Snapshot for this term. They will begin to rehearse and then record a video presentation demonstrating how they can sign common phrases and questions used by both teachers and students in the classroom.

 

Physical Education

 

Prep PE

To finish the term, students will enjoy a selection of games, where we will introduce the concept of ‘point scoring’ while reviewing the fundamental movements skills of throwing, catching and running. 

 

Prep Sensory:

Students will participate in rotational activities with the focus on improving their core strength, balance and ability to work in a small group.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will continue to review throwing, catching and running while enjoying a selection of small group games. They will be encouraged to consider strategies which enable them to successfully utilise these skills within the game (i.e. throwing away from the fielder to complete more runs). They will begin the lesson with the opportunity to train for the full race distance in preparation for the upcoming Whole School Cross Country event.

 

Grade 3 and 4

This week students will begin to focus on the sport of soccer. We will explore the key skills of kicking and trapping the ball. Students will be given opportunity to train for the full race distance in preparation for the upcoming Whole School Cross Country.

 

Grade 5 and 6

This week students will begin to focus on the sport of soccer. We will explore the key skills of kicking and trapping the ball. We will encourage students to kick the ball with the flat inside portion of their foot, in order to control the direction of the pass. Students will be given opportunity to train for the full race distance in preparation for the upcoming Whole School Cross Country.

 

Note to all

With the Whole School Cross Country event taking place early in Term Two, we encourage families, where possible, to provide opportunity for their child to practice jogging the full race distance during the school holidays. You might even like to head to the Wonga Park Reserve on Launder's Avenue to run the actual track!

 

Performing Arts

🎵 Prep

Due to the public holiday and planning week, there will be no Performing Arts classes for the Preps. 

 

🎤 Grade 1 and 2

Due to the public holiday and planning week, there will be no Performing Arts classes for the Grade 1 and 2 students. 

 

🎶 Grade 3 and 4

Students will finish their process drama this week and complete a short reflection task to capture their understanding of the themes, characters and activities they have explored. 

 

🎭 Grade 5 and 6

In their groups, students will finish their short self-devised' physical theatre performance, inspired by the idea of 'community'. They will perform their work for the class and provide feedback to their peers. Students will also complete a short reflection task on this performance making task.
