Golden 10 Minutes - 8.50 - 9am

💛 The 'Golden 10' is a valuable time to quickly touch base with your child's teacher to let us know if there have been any issues with your child overnight that may impact their day.

💛 If you require more time than a quick handover, we ask that you make a time to meet with us after school, where we can give you our attention without interruptions due to the busyness of the morning.

💛 Term 2 is a busy term of learning and we will be starting Reading Groups at 9am. We kindly ask that parents refrain from entering the classroom now, and that you allow your  child's teacher to greet them at the door and assist them to independently prepare for the day. After a goodbye hug has occurred, we also ask for your understanding in moving away from classroom doors, as this removes temptation for your child to run after you.

📖 Book Pockets over the holidays

Over the holidays, students will not be bringing home any 'take home books' (this allows us to reset and restock our classrooms with different books).

Instead, we encourage you to use the Reading Eggs app, which can be used on any device. You will find your child’s password glued into the front page of their Reading Log. This password can also be used for Mathseeds, which you can access from the home screen on the Reading Eggs app.

If your child wants to continue reading and blending over the holidays, we recommend trying 'Fast Phonics' on Reading Eggs, which covers phonics and decoding.

You can also continue to learn the Magic Words. We have attached an image with a fun way to continue to learn these words.

CURRICULUM

This week is the last week before Easter, therefore we will incorporate Easter themes (eg. easter bunny, eggs, etc) into a lot of our learning! Due to the students being very tired after a big first term of school, we will also revise many of the concepts we have covered this term.

📚 Reading

We will combine our learning of 'Problem and Solution' alongside character and setting. They will revise initial sounds and continue to learn to decode words.

What can you do at home?

-Help your child read their take home book.

-Practise the Magic Words.

-Use the letters of 'SATPIN' , /c/, /h/, /k/, /m/, /r/ and /e/ to make CVC words and read them eg. rat, can, cat, nip, pin, etc.

-Read to your child at bedtime. Ask them about character, setting, problem and solution in the story.

🔡 Phonics

Students will learn about the letter /e/ and its sound. They will learn the cued articulation and brainstorm words that begin with /e/.

We will revise the sounds that we have already learnt to to construct and deconstruct words. We will use the letters of 'SATPIN', as well as /c/, /h/, /k/, /m/, /r/ and /e/ to decode CVC words.

What you can do at home?

-Ask your child to show you the cued articulation for /e/ and the sound it makes.

-Discuss words that start with /e/ and the words that contain this sound.

--Use the letters of 'SATPIN', /c/, /h/, /k/, /m/, /r/ and /e/  to make CVC words and read them eg. ham, pit, sip, sat, tap, pan, etc.

📝 Writing

Students will focus on handwriting, particularly the correct formation of the letter 'e' (which can be tricky for some students!)

We are focussing on 'have a go' writing, where initial sound attempts are encouraged and celebrated.

What can you do at home?

-Help your child to write their name in 'school' writing - a capital letter followed by lower case letters.

-Help your child to develop their pencil grip / pinch.

-If your child enjoys writing at home, encourage correct formation of letters (particularly focussing on 'entry and exit' points - where the letter starts and finishes)

🔢  Maths

Students will revise our learning in number, particularly on 'before and after' / 'more and less' and sequencing numbers from a non-zero starting point.

What can you do at home?

-Continue to count at home and play counting games.

-Play games involving dice, dominoes and cards.

🐣We hope you and your family enjoy a restful and relaxing Easter break. See you next Term!
