Dear Parents and Carers,

It's astonishing that there are only three weeks left in the year, and amidst the countdown, numerous events are unfolding, creating a sense of anticipation. The school is actively gearing up for various celebrations, with students practicing songs, rehearsing speeches, writing invitation letters, engaging in classroom visits as part of the transition program, and staff diligently working on student reports.

This moment serves as a poignant opportunity to reflect on our good fortune. I am profoundly thankful to be part of a nurturing and supportive school environment where collaboration between parents, students, and staff ensures an optimal learning experience.

Step Up Day

During Term 4 each year, students ranging from Foundation to Year 5 actively participate in our school-wide transition program, known as the Step-Up program. This program allows students to transition to the next year level, fostering readiness for the upcoming phase in their educational journey. Recognizing the crucial role, a successful transition plays in a child's educational, social, and emotional development, we are committed to providing time and space for your child to understand that they will be moving to a new classroom and will have different classmates in 2024. This transition is immensely beneficial for all involved.

We encourage parents to approach discussions with their child about their new classes in a positive manner. With positive support from the adults in their lives, all children can and do transition successfully into new situations.

Christmas Carols and Songs of Celebration

The Toorak PS Annual Christmas Carols and Songs of Celebration evening is being held on Tuesday 12th December. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together, relax, and celebrate the wonderful year we’ve had as a community. Each of the classes will perform a range of songs with the entertainment commence at 5 pm and finishing around 6pm (approximately). This will be an enchanting evening filled with festive cheer and community spirit.

Please come along, bring a picnic, find a place on the basketball courts, and enjoy our students performing songs they have been enthusiastically rehearsing.

Please note that this is an alcohol-free event.

Parent Thank You Morning Tea

Please put aside this Friday 1st December at 9am to come along and join the staff in the hall for a thank you morning tea for our parents and volunteers who have helped throughout the year. Our staff expresses gratitude for the invaluable additional support you offer. The range of activities you engage in is very much appreciated, whether it involves assisting during excursions, contributing in classrooms, tending to our garden, grilling sausages, baking delightful cakes, managing the sale of school uniforms, organizing our fantastic fundraising events, or actively participating in the School Council. Your commitment and involvement are greatly appreciated.

COVID-19 Reminder

There is at present an increase in community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria.

You can help us keep our school as safe as possible by taking 2 important steps:

  1. Ensure your COVID-19 vaccinations are up to date. Information on how and where to get vaccinated is available on the Get vaccinated webpage.
  2. If your child shows symptoms of COVID-19, please ensure they stay home and get tested. The easiest way to test is to use a rapid antigen test (RAT). Free RATs are available from your local council where you can collect 2 packs of 5 RATs and an extra 2 packs for each person in your household. People with disability and their carers can get 4 packs of 5 RATs. You are not required to have a Medicare card and you can collect RATs as many times as you need. You can also buy RATs at supermarkets, pharmacies, and other retailers.

If your child has symptoms but tests negative, please ensure they stay home until they no longer have symptoms.

If the RAT test result is positive, please ensure they say home for at least 5 days and until there are no more symptoms.

Thank you for your support – these steps will help us all stay well.

As always, we thank our entire community for their continued support and understanding.

Please review our dates further in the newsletter so that you can see our future key events.

Kind regards,

Sharon Wildermuth
