Year 2 Celebration Newsletter
What an awesome year we have had in Grade 2. Together we have had many positive experiences and opportunities for learning and growth. Collaborative work, fun, laughter, and enthusiasm has created a vibrant learning environment, and it’s been great to see that we have all embraced these values.
In Literacy, students engaged in reading comprehension, author studies, and diverse writing forms like explanation texts, poems, and narratives, students honed their skills in inferring, questioning, and analyzing texts while refining spelling and grammar proficiency.
In Numeracy, students grasp of measurement, mass, capacity, fractions, money, and place value grew evident through practical applications. In number the concept of fractions was introduced through various visual aids and practical exercises. Students gained a foundational understanding of fractions by relating them to parts of a whole, essential in dividing objects and understanding proportions in everyday scenarios. Exploring money involved recognising different coins and notes, making exchanges, and understanding the value of each currency unit.
These skills were reinforced through simulated shopping experiences and budgeting activities, preparing students for handling money in real-life situations. In Measurement, by exploring mass and capacity, students learnt to measure weight and volume, grasping the difference between the two. Real-life applications included understanding portion sizes in recipes or determining the volume of containers.
Moreover, their scientific journey into light and sound was captivating; they delved into the senses, making direct observations and comparisons, understanding how these stimuli are sensed and their roles in our lives. Discovering key understandings, they recognised the diversity of sounds from serene melodies to alarming sirens and the ability of light to convey images and emotions. Addressing fundamental questions, students explored the nature of sound and light travels, hearing and sight mechanisms, and the profound impact of these phenomena on our community's dynamics.
The learning environment, teamwork, and emphasis on our school values and friendships have contributed to a positive and rewarding school year. It’s has been wonderful to have created these lasting memories and had such a fantastic year in Grade 2.
Good Luck and best wishes for the following years of learning, growth, and fun!
