As the end of term approaches, we are thrilled to celebrate the awesome journey of our Grade 1 students. This term has been filled with remarkable achievements, curiosity, and countless moments of learning and growth. Here’s a glimpse into the fantastic adventures our students have undertaken and the valuable skills they’ve acquired:
Reading Adventures: Exploring the World of Authors
Our learners embarked on an exciting adventure delving into the captivating world of different authors. Through dedicated author studies, they immersed themselves in the works of various literary figures. From the imaginative tales of Oliver Jeffers to the adventurous stories of Jeannie Baker, our students discovered unique writing styles and gained insights into the creative minds behind these beloved stories.
Writing: Mastering the Art of Persuasion
In Writing, our Grade 1 students showcased their persuasive prowess! They penned compelling letters to different people, skilfully convincing them to grant permission for different experiences. These heartfelt and persuasive letters highlighted the students' creativity and ability to express their thoughts. Some students even convinced their parents to let them stay up late!
Maths: Exploring Numbers and Operations
Our young mathematicians dived into the realms of place value, multiplication, and division. Engaging in interactive games and activities, they honed their mathematical skills while having fun. Their enthusiasm and determination illuminated the classroom as they embraced the challenges of mathematical concepts.
Inquiry Adventures: Unravelling the Mysteries of Light and Sound
Curiosity led our students on an inquiry journey into light and sound. They explored how these elements play a significant role in our daily lives. Through hands-on experiments and engaging discussions, they uncovered the wonders of these natural phenomena and their practical applications.
Memorable Melbourne Zoo Excursion: An Unforgettable Experience
Undoubtedly, the highlight of our term was the delightful visit to the Melbourne Zoo! Witnessing the joyous expressions on our student's faces as they connected with wildlife and explored the wonders of nature was truly heartwarming.
As we reflect on this term, we are immensely proud of the dedication, enthusiasm, and inquisitiveness displayed by our Grade 1 students.

Year 1 Team
Performing Arts
This term, Grade 1 students explored narrative structure and character development while developing their media literacy skills. They planned, designed, and created their own Fairy Tale Cartoon animation using an app called Puppet Pals on the iPads. Working in small groups, they narrated their animations and explored the use of vocal expression to bring their cartoon characters to life. Performing Arts finished the year with a bang when showcasing the musical talents of students’ from across the school at our end of year Kismet Christmas Carols picnic.
PE
Students have participated in a variety of team games. They have learnt to follow the rules of games and accept the decisions of an umpire. They have used many ball skills and worked with others. Games have included futsal, basketball and keepings off.
Japanese
This term in Japanese the Year 1 students developed their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through the topic, “I Want Fruit!”. Students participated in small group activities to support their ability to read and write 9 fruit names. They also were supported to perform a role play set in a fruit shop, in small groups. Some of the phrases used in the role play include “welcome [may I help you]”, “I want …”, “can I please have …”, “here you are” and “thank you”.
The Year 1 students also learned about the cultural event, Health and Sports Day held in Japan and participated in a scavenger hunt to celebrate this event. They worked with partners to locate Japanese colours around the schoolyard.
