Mathematics
In our term 4 math adventures, Prep students continued to explore numbers. We engaged in activities that involved sharing items equally into small and large groups, even progressing into identifying remainders. We understood the importance of place value, identifying how many ones and tens were in a number and represented numbers using bundling. We also explored the features of money and set up our own shops, locating specific coins to buy items. From sharing cookies, to counting coins in their piggy banks, term 4 was filled with lots of hands on learning.
Writing
In the writing corner, our Preps spent term 4 crafting entertaining narratives, rhymes, letters and poems. Our young authors were on a mission to entertain! They continued to explore the art of sentences, creating two-part sentences using "and," "but," and "so." With these conjunctions, their sentences are becoming more exciting and expressive.
Reading
In the reading realm, our budding readers are practicing reading fluently and adding expression to their reading. Prep students activated their prior knowledge, predicted future adventures, studied authors with a critical eye, and made connections that bridge the world of stories with their own experiences.
A Highlight!
One memory that we made this term, that will stay with us forever was attending our first BIG excursion to the Werribee Zoo. The zoo visit allowed students to explore and observe a diverse array of wildlife. Guided by enthusiastic educators, the children engaged in interactive and educational sessions, gaining valuable insights into the habitats, behaviors, and conservation efforts for various species. The day was not only an opportunity for fun and excitement but also a chance for the students to deepen their understanding of the importance of wildlife preservation. As the students wandered through the zoo, their faces lit up with awe and curiosity. From the towering giraffes to the playful meerkats, each exhibit presented a unique learning experience.
Performing Arts
This term, Preps used dramatic skills and teamwork to explore concepts of inclusion and 'big emotions'. They engaged in various role-plays and social stories to learn how to be inclusive of their peers and be good friends. The students worked on developing their facial expressions, body language, and use of tone to portray a range of emotions and understand how these are expressed physically by others. Performing Arts finished the year with a bang when showcasing the musical talents of students’ from across the school at our end of year Kismet Christmas Carols picnic.
PE
Students have been introduced to a variety of minor games where they have been given the opportunity to play in a team. They have experienced what it is like to play in a team and what is expected. Students have learnt to follow the rules of games and listen to the umpire.
Japanese
This term in Japanese the Prep students learned farm animals and colours and how to use them in sentences. They made their own mini books with sentences and pictures to match the sentences e.g. The pig is pink. The students developed their reading and writing of Japanese through activities such as tracing and copying focus vocabulary, matching activities and games. Their speaking and listening also continued to develop through choral readings of their mini books. Preps learned about the cultural event, Health and Sports Day held in Japan.
