PE/Sport Update

Senior Swimming Success!

Our Senior Swimming Lessons were a fantastic success, with students developing their water safety and swimming skills in a supportive and engaging environment. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow with each session, and we commend all students for their participation and effort.

The excitement then carried over to our Senior Swimming Carnival, where students showcased their skills and competitive spirit. Congratulations to all of our ribbon winners for their outstanding performances! A special congratulations to Davey House, who took out the coveted House Cup with an incredible team effort.

To cap off an amazing start to the swimming season, 35 students represented our school at the Warragul District Interschool Swimming Competition on Friday, 14 February. Exciting Start to Gymnastics in Junior Sport and PE!

Our Junior Sport and PE program is also off to a fantastic start this term! This week, our Grade F-2 students took part in their first session of the Launchpad Gymnastics Program, thanks to our partnership with Gymnastics Australia and Leongatha Gymnastics Club. With three more sessions to come, students will continue to develop their movement skills, coordination, and confidence through fun and engaging gymnastics activities. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they jumped, balanced, and tumbled their way through the first session. We can’t wait to see their skills grow throughout the term!

Collingwood Stars Inspire Trafalgar Primary Students

On Tuesday, 11 February, Trafalgar Primary School had the incredible opportunity to host players from the Collingwood Football Club for a special visit. Josh Daicos, Isaac Quaynor, Mason Cox, Joel Cohran, and Iliro Smit joined us for a 45-minute Q&A session in the gym, where students from Grades F-6 had the chance to ask their burning questions about life as professional athletes.

The players took the time to inspire our students, encouraging them to stay active, work hard, and enjoy the game—no matter their skill level. Students were also excited to receive signed handouts, and those who brought Collingwood FC merchandise had the special chance to get their items autographed.

The visit was an unforgettable experience for our school community, leaving students buzzing with excitement and newfound motivation. A huge thank you to the Collingwood Football Club for making this event so special!

AFL Superkick Program 2025

Trafalgar Primary School has partnered with AFL Victoria to offer a 5-week After School Superkick program for all Grade 1 – Grade 6 students in 2025.

Superkick is a modified version of AFL for anyone wanting to get a feel for footy, without the pressure. You’ll learn new ways to play through skill-based activities in weekly sessions, then show them off in games straight after.

It’s a great introduction to AFL, especially for those who might be thinking about joining the Trafalgar Junior Football Club Under 8s, Under 10s, or Under 12s in 2025. However, it is also suitable for current or past players just looking to keep fit and play some footy with mates too.

This optional 5-week school-based program will be run outside of school learning hours (after school) at a cost of $55 per participant

Sessions will be run by AFL Victoria, on the school oval from 3:30pm-4:30pm, so that students can come straight from class, on the following days:

Monday 24 Feb

Monday 3 March

No Superkick on Labour Day (Monday 10 March)

Monday 17 March

Monday 24 March

Monday 31 March

To participate all you need to do is register your child to the program via PlayHQ. A link/QR code directing you to the registration form can be found on the flyer below.

STEM Update

What an awesome first week of STEM lessons at TPS. This term we are studying Biology with a focus on the features of living things, life cycles, and adaptations.

We have live specimens to study in the classroom including, spiney leaf insects, praying mantis, crickets and grasshoppers, sea monkeys and caterpillars which, you guessed it, will transform into Monarch butterflies right before our eyes!

Engaging children in STEM activities from a young age is a powerful way to ignite their curiosity, foster critical thinking, and develop essential skills for their future success.

So, let’s embrace the wonder of STEM education and embark on an exciting journey of exploration, experimentation, and learning, together. The possibilities are endless, and the benefits will last a lifetime.
