Art Therapy

This week in group art therapy we made ‘Feelings Masks’. After the singing bowl and sharing our emotions with the ‘Slunky’ (sloth/monkey) cards, students chose an emotion to create a mask about.

Each student decorated a paper mask with colours, drawings, or textures to represent how they feel on the inside vs. how they show feelings on the outside.

We had lots of fun and enjoyed some great conversations about emotions.

Today, the students explored emotions and mindfulness through engaging activities that helped them understand and express their feelings. We started with Slunky Feeling Cards, a fun and interactive way for students to recognise different emotions and discuss how they experience them. This led to an insightful lesson about worries—those thoughts that can make us feel nervous or scared. Through open and respectful conversations, students shared their ideas and supported one another, creating a safe and encouraging space for discussion.

To wrap up our session, we practiced the Belly Breathing Meditation, a calming exercise that helps manage worries and bring a sense of relaxation. The students embraced the practice with enthusiasm, focusing on deep breaths and mindfulness techniques. It was wonderful to see them not only engaged but also showing kindness and respect towards each other. A big well done to everyone for their thoughtful contributions and willingness to learn about emotions in a supportive way!
