Visual Arts

This week in Visual Arts, students continued to explore the art elements of line, shape, and colour through drawing. Foundation students created a line mat art piece by drawing various types of lines with oil pastels and adding watercolour paint.

Year 1/2 students followed step-by-step instructions to draw a turtle, incorporating different types of lines to design its shell. Year 3/4 students completed their self-portraits and began working on mandala designs, using a variety of lines and shapes. Year 5/6 students finished their self-portrait drawings, focusing on guidelines and proportions to create structured portraits of themselves.

In addition to our artwork, Ms Zehra, our Visual Art Captains, Niamh and Seychelle, and I had the pleasure of interviewing many Years 2–6 students who applied for the school-wide leadership role of Visual Arts assistant. Each applicant completed an expression of interest form and participated in an interview to help select students for these leadership roles. For those who missed out this time, there will be another opportunity to apply next semester!

Congratulations to our new Visual Arts Assistants!

School Wide Swimming Program

Week 5 at school was the second and final week of our swimming program. Students who participated completed an 8 day, or for preps a 6 day intensive swim program. All students tried really hard and showed great improvement during the program.

Students learnt the basic swimming skills and the importance of being safe around the water, including a water safety day which included swimming in the water with extra clothes on, and what you need to do to be safe.

The final day of the program included a fun day with inflatables and swimming in the waves pool.

Well done to all students, and a massive thanks to our wonderful staff for their help and support for the children with getting to and from the pool, as well as getting changed. Thanks also to our many parents who supported the program and helped out at the pool too.

PE Week 7

This week in PE, the P-2 students again were reminded of the expectations of our PE lessons, including listening to the whistle and following instructions. Students enjoyed being back at PE and having a fun time at school.

Students in years 3-6 started learning the skills and sport of tee-ball. Students learnt how to wear the glove correctly on their non preferred hand, which is a bit of a challenge for many, and then throwing a ball accurately to a partner.

It is a challenge for many, but they are all very keen and having a good time learning these new skills.

Interschool Sports

Sports has continued over the past two weeks. In week 5 we played against Stella Maris and had a few wins in teeball and mixed tennis, and some improvement in volleyball and girls tennis.

Last week we played OLA, and our two teeball teams had good wins, and our other teams tried really hard, although they weren’t able to get a win.

It is great to see all of our students try their best, but more importantly show great sportsmanship and teamwork with both our students and with students from the opposing schools.

Well done everyone, keep it up.

Swimming Carnival

Last Monday we entered a team in the Kingston District Swimming competition for the first time. It was very exciting as we took 24 students to compete against 10 other schools. Everyone tried really hard and did their best. Gus from 34 swam very well and got 2nd place in under 9/10s freestyle and backstroke. And although we didn’t get a place in any other event, it was a great day and everyone had a great time.

Well done to everyone for their efforts.

Thanks.

Library

Our Story Dogs program has started again.

In this program, volunteers bring their dogs to school to read with children.

If you have a lovely dog and time on your hands and would like to get involved, please reach out to Miss Anna.

A big thank you to Becky Blakey and Alina Bakham for being our volunteers for this year so far!

Also, this is our amazing library team for this year (plus or minus a few kids who were away). Badges will be handed out at the library session on Monday.

Auslan Newsletter. Term One. Week Six.

We have resumed our Auslan classes after a two week break for our swimming program. We have been learning about hand orientation and location. How one hand symbol might look the same as another, but placed in a different location, it will have a completely different meaning. Like the colours, yellow and white.

We are starting to sing songs in our Auslan classes and doing the corresponding Auslan hand symbols. This has been really lovely to watch and every class is trying their very best to sing whilst doing Auslan.

With the beginning of the AFL footy season, we will also be starting to learn Auslan relevant to all the football teams.

Each lesson we are focusing on one specific letter from the alphabet.

Thank you very much.

Ms. Buchan.

Footy Feed: Learn to Auslan sign every AFL team

Deaf Connect Chief Impact Officer Brent Phillips explains how Deaf Connect is supporting Gather Round, and shows footy fans how to Auslan sign their favourite team.

We will be watching this next week to learn how to sign our favourite footy team.

Mini Music Concerts 2025 at Le Page Primary School

This year, we are excited to introduce mini music concerts for each cohort, providing students with more opportunities to share their musical learning.

Our first event is the Grade 5/6 Mini Concert – Music Without Borders. In this performance, students will embark on a musical journey that transcends geographic, cultural, and emotional boundaries. Music has the extraordinary ability to connect people, regardless of background or language, uniting us through shared rhythms, melodies, and emotions.

Students will explore themes of unity, identity, and shared human experiences through song, dance, and instrumental music. They will perform pieces from Africa, Indigenous Australia, the USA, and the Middle East, showcasing the diversity and universality of music. The Grade 5 recorder ensemble will also perform, and selected students will present dance pieces and instrumental performances on keyboard and guitar.

We warmly invite all parents and families to attend and celebrate the joy of music with us! 🎶
