Amazing 5/6

Term 1 - Week 6
A message from the teachers
One week away from NAPLAN and everyone has done a great job adapting to new routines and literacy and numeracy techniques. The Year 5 NAPLAN test times are as follows;
Wednesday, 13th of March - Year 5 Writing and Year 5 Reading
Thursday, 14th of March - Year 5 Language Conventions
Monday, 18th of March - Year 5 Maths
We wish all our Year 5’s the best of luck!
In Literacy, we are trying to be persuasive by writing letters focused around sustainability, renewable energy and a topic of their choice. We have explored and researched why some energy sources are better than others, the cost of going green and what it could cost the state government to bring big name soccer clubs to the country for a one-side-takes-all tournament. We are really exploring the big issues in 5/6!
In Numeracy, the Year 5’s are building their addition and subtraction strategies, including rounding, adjusting and partitioning numbers up to 4 and 5 digits. This is in preparation for moving into vertical equations. The Year 6’s are continuing to explore fractions and their relationship with whole numbers. They will be moving into adding and subtracting fractions and a special surprise project while the Year 5’s are testing.
If you need to get in contact with any of us, please use the emails below and stay on top of Compass as we have a number of big events coming up in the next 4 weeks. The Summer sports tournament day is soon upon us, house cross country is sneaking closer and the 5/6 music concert is also happening soon. Never boring in 5/6!
