Fantastic 3/4

Term 1 Week 6 2025
What have we been up to?
The year 3/4 Cohort has continued with spectacular progress as we reach over the halfway point of Term 1!
The students have continued working hard on our school wide classroom routine goals. We are focusing on walking from place to place in love straight lines, and our whiteboard routines while in the classroom. We are using the language ‘hover it’, we hover our board to show our teacher that we have answered the question, ‘chin it’, we chin our board to show the teacher our answer, ‘tick it or fix it’, we give ourselves a tick or fix our work if we make a mistake (but we love making mistakes, because that is how we learn!), and then we wipe it when we are finished!
We are continuing to track our WIGs and the students are taking great pride in their classroom leadership roles. In addition this week we have added a new leadership role to our classroom which is ‘Sunscreen Leader’. The aim of the sunscreen leader is to empower students to be sun smart and cautious of how they are protecting their skin each day before they go out to play at recess and lunch. Our sunscreen leader stands at the door each lunch and recess to provide sunscreen to all class members before they go out to play.
In Literacy, we are continuing to read the novel ‘Matilda’. We are now beginning to write and explore narratives. We understand that every narrative has an introduction with the characters and setting, an action, a problem, a resolution and a conclusion. The students are deep diving into each section, to ensure they write the best narrative they can! We are loving the new phonics routine each morning. The students are given a great chance to learn and understand spelling rules that we use in our everyday writing! Furthermore during writing sessions we have begun looking at Persuasive writing. Students have been in intorice to the structure and persuasive language devices used throughout to create a strong persuasive writing piece.
In Mathematics, students have completed their whole number of essential assessment test. This assessment was a focus on place value. Students have now started a new topic on addition and subtraction where they focus on developing accuracy, using estimation, and solving real life problems using various addition and subtraction methods.
Homework will continue to be sent out each Monday. Students will receive a maths and spelling sheet to complete and return by the following Monday. Additionally, we encourage students to read for at least 20 minutes each night with a book of their choice.
