Around the Grounds - Junior School

Aboriginal STEAM Day

On Thursday 06 March, the Junior School hosted a multi-age Aboriginal-themed STEAM Day, organised by the STEM, Science & Technologies teachers. Students engaged in a variety of hands-on activities, including:

  • Exploring the physics of flight and having the unique opportunity to throw a Boomerang with First Nations Incursions.
  • Learning about astronomy by reading Awesome Emu and discovering how stars influenced mating, feeding seasons and location.
  • Creating art through the use of Aboriginal cultural symbols.
  • Exploring early technologies with basket weaving.

Teachers received a lot of positive feedback from students, who clearly enjoyed the day. This experience will help integrate this valuable learning into other parts of their curriculum.

Art Club

The Art Club has kicked off with lots of enthusiasm and excitement from the students involved. They are currently having a blast creating paper mache fish sculptures using recycled materials. It's a fun, messy activity and a wonderful opportunity to make new friends. The students’ sculptures are inspired by our Junior School production of Finding Nemo, which will take place later this year. We’re also fortunate to have Mrs. Nolan at Art Club, who has been offering plenty of inspiration and ideas for the Finding Nemo theme. A big thank you to Mrs. Nolan for all her time and energy!

Indonesian Class

Year 5 Indonesian class had a wonderful opportunity to meet their future penpal buddies from their sister school Gagas Ceria School in Bandung, Indonesia. During a special virtual session, the students introduced themselves, exchanged greetings, and learned about each other’s interests and daily lives. Excited to start their friendship, they will now begin writing letters to one another, sharing stories about their cultures, hobbies, and school experiences. This meaningful connection will help them improve their language skills while building lifelong friendships. The students are eager to send their first letters and look forward to receiving replies from their new friends!
