From the Principal

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”

Genesis 1:31

Last week, our Senior School students returned from their Residential Programs. Across the year levels, they surfed, caved, canoed, abseiled, cycled, hiked and even split wood. I am especially grateful to our dedicated staff who stepped away from their classrooms to make these experiences possible and to our students who approached each challenge with enthusiasm and the positive attitude we are so proud of at Huntingtower.

From Grade 2 to Year 12, every Huntingtower student participates in our Residential Programs. These experiences are designed to foster deep connections beyond the classroom, build resilience and encourage independence. Extended bushwalks, overnight camp stays and preparing meals in the outdoors develop problem-solving skills and self-sufficiency.

One of the greatest gifts these programs offer however, is that of perspective. They provide an opportunity to step outside the familiar and see oneself within the vastness of the natural world. Whether gazing at the rolling ocean as you arrive in Lorne, feeling the quiet majesty of sailing on Lake Nillahcootie, or summoning the courage to conquer the high ropes at Gilwell Park, these moments remind us that we are part of something greater than ourselves. They create a sense of awe, encouraging us to shift our view of ourselves and those around us. This deep sense of wonder makes it possible to move beyond the immediate, to reflect deeply and ultimately, to Nosce te Ipsum – Know Thy True Self.

While camps provide a unique setting for these revelations, awe is not confined to the wilderness. It is a mindset we hope to instil in all our students, that allows them to find  wonder in the everyday.

Thank you for your continued support of our Residential Programs. Your encouragement ensures that these experiences remain an essential and cherished part of a Huntingtower education.
