Library Matters
Welcome to the Library! We’ve got a big year ahead of us and are excited to help all our students be their best selves in 2025.
Student wellbeing is a top priority for our library, and we have a variety of break activities and clubs to help our students make friends and spark their curiosity. We have our Trading Card Game Days where students can play Pokemon, YuGiOh, Lorcana, and Magic: The Gathering, as well as our Nintendo Switch and our Dungeons and Dragons clubs. All students are welcome!
Last year we had our best ever year for library loans, with an amazing 2415 books making it into the hands of our students. Our top borrowers for 2024 proved to be voracious readers, with our top 10 smashing their previous loans records:
Annabelle K (Year 9): 297 books
Levi D-W (Year 10): 152 books
Lucy T (Year 9): 101 books
Natalie K (Year 8): 75 books
Sarah J (Year 10): 45 books
Caitlin S (Year 8): 45 books
Tanisha W-L (Year 10): 35 books
Supriya T (Year 12): 23 books
Keanu R (Year 11): 21 books
Cleo R-L (Year 9): 20 books
We’ll be running our Library Monitor program once again this year. Last year we had a wonderful team of student volunteers who helped keep the library in order, and we even had some students successfully gain employment in after-school jobs after discussing the skills they developed from the program. I look forward to working with a fresh batch of librarians-in-training in 2025!
I also look forward to continuing the Wide Reading Program in 2025. This year we’ll have all Year 7 and 8 classes, as well as some lucky Year 9 and Support Unit classes, visit the library once a fortnight. This program has been running for several years now and aims to create independent, lifelong readers by giving students the opportunity to explore books of their own choosing in a socially supported positive learning environment.
We are excited to announce that our school once again will be participating in the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge. This is an annual statewide initiative that aims to encourage students to develop a love of reading and improve their literacy skills. The challenge is open to all students from Kindergarten to Year 10 in NSW schools. To complete the challenge, students need to read 20 books, including 10 free choice and 10 from a designated reading list, before the 22nd August 2025.
If your child is looking for something fun to read which will contribute to the challenge, they can access thousands of free eBooks and audiobooks via our virtual library. New titles are added every month.
