Mr Peter Robertson
Welcome back everyone to the 2025 HSC year! At our first assembly last week, the Year 12 team was introduced as follows:
12.1 Mr Chivers
12.2 Miss Gamsaragan
12.3 Mrs Dee
12.4 Mr Ginestra/Mrs Muscat
12.5 Mrs Cullen/Mrs James
12.6 Mrs Raftery
We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and professional group of staff guiding our young men and women through this challenging year. They are your first point of reference if there is an issue that you would like clarified and then more serious concerns can be referred to me or the relevant member of staff.
Mrs Slater, our Leader of Learning, addressed the year group with the words “It is game on from today“. Her three key messages were to review exam results, reset the study routine and to take on board the ingredients for success (consistency, quality study, balance/wellbeing and collaboration). With the second block of HSC assessment tasks coming up in Week 8, these reminders are very timely. All students have also received a College Diary this year, which should be used constructively to record important dates, upcoming tasks, study timetables and so forth. If this is not happening, it suggests a lack of serious organisation and a failure to set themselves up for success. We have six months (less) to the Trials and a little over seven months until final lessons in September!
Year 12 students have a multitude of resources available to them on their HSC journey- these include online support material such as ‘ATOMI‘, the College Library (open from 8am-4pm every day), their friends/ study buddies and their highly committed and experienced teachers. Specialist staff like Mrs Kennedy (Careers, Pathways and Partnerships) talked about setting goals, taking advantage of university ‘Discovery Days‘ (for example, UOW on Tuesday, February 18) and being an active participant.
Finally, I outlined some general expectations which should be well understood by all: uniform and grooming, maturity and respect, the mobile phone policy, engaging with learning and ‘competing‘ in every subject and activity, consistent attendance and punctuality, leadership and involvement, communication and responsibility. In other words, being an adult. My vision for the year is that all our Year 12 students achieve their personal goals, create great memories and have positive interactions and relationships with everyone concerned so that in the future, they can look back on the ‘Good Old Days‘ with a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment.
