February, 2025 - FACT: those who have goals are 10 times more likely to succeed than those without goals
As the first Careers Newsletter of the year, I would like to introduce myself to our new Year 7 and Year 11 students and their families and to remind Year 8 and 12 students of the services that I am able to provide. In my role as Instructional Leader Pathways and Partnerships, I am able to work with students to set goals for their HSC and beyond school. These Individual Transition Plans (ITP) are aligned with student’s strengths, passions and interests. I also work closely with universities, tertiary institutions and employers to develop partnerships to assist our students as they seek pathways post school, cadetship opportunities and scholarships.
At present our College is working in partnership with many universities and tertiary institutions, including University of Wollongong, University of Technology (including the UTS Start-Up team), Torrens University, SEDA Academy, and we are developing close partnerships with local businesses including Kareena Hospital, Tribe Fitness, Anytime Fitness, NSW Mining, Matt Blak Property, Hospitality Partnerships (including Sealevel, Deluxe Pizza and Natale Group - Giro Osteria and Alphabet Street) and Cronulla RSL.
At the end of last year we held our inaugural Working In Partnerships Evening where we were able to brainstorm the large number of opportunities that are open for our students as they embark on their education at St Aloysius College and the value of developing community connections. If you have a business and are keen to become involved more with our College, please reach out to me. I will continue to post opportunities in this newsletter, as well as important dates for University entries, Early Admissions and Scholarships.
As we head into a new school year, we have a great THRIVE program planned for Tuesday afternoons, with our Year 11 and 12 students being introduced to a range of presenters that will benefit them as they set goals for their HSC and beyond school. This will be published during the term and I encourage all of our students to make the most of this unique program.
The University Admission Centre (UAC) is the body responsible for calculating student’s ATAR and allocating university preferences following the HSC. I will continue to update all the latest from UAC in these newsletters.
There will be many opportunities to discover about universities and the Early Admission process throughout this year. It is important that all students continue to watch this space and to attend as many Open Days and Webinars as they can. The more research that students can do, the better informed they will be on making decisions for post school study.
University of Wollongong Discovery Day - 18 February
A number of Year 12 students will be attending UOW Discovery Day in Week 3. This is a valuable opportunity for students to explore the large number of courses offered as well as immerse themselves into the life of a University student.
UOW Future Me Program
This program offered by UOW is a space where Year 12 students can explore post school opportunities and improve HSC study skills. Students enrolled will learn how to research university courses, university pathways, student support, and UOW’s Early Admission process. Students will have the opportunity to connect with UOW mentors and will feel confident navigating life after high school. The program runs for 6 weeks (with one 90 minute session per week). Registrations close 23 February.
