Learning In My Level

LEVEL 3&4
Level 3
Level 3 students have had an amazing start to 2025! We have set new routines and students have enthusiastically begun their new Level 3 learning program.
Flora and Fauna
Last week, students excitedly participated in their first Flora and Fauna session, a program exclusive to Level 3! Students worked in groups to pick flowers and tomatoes from our fabulous school garden with Mr Barr and Patty, cook yummy food in our Gallery kitchen with Mrs O’Keefe, and engage in lessons with teachers about Sustainability, Science and Community. Every student is given the opportunity to engage in each activity multiple times throughout the year, on a 5-week rotation schedule.
Level 3 families, if you are able to dedicate some time to help with our Gardening or Cooking rotations on a Tuesday, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
Literacy
In Writing, students have been exploring persuasive texts by looking at the structure of a persuasive text, and also writing their own about different topics. Students have also had the opportunity to revise and edit their own writing to improve it’s meaning and effect on the audience.
In Reading, students have organised their book boxes with "Just Right Books" that match their reading level. They've learned to pay attention to their inner voice to help them better understand the texts. They've also been working on improving their comprehension skills by making connections and making predictions.
Mathematics
The students have been thoroughly enjoying our Numeracy sessions to start the year! We kicked things off by setting up our Mathematical Thinking Classrooms, diving into birthday graphs, and strengthening our number facts. Over the past two weeks, our focus has been on skip counting and place value, with hands-on activities and engaging challenges making learning both meaningful and fun.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we have delved into our topic of Celebrations and Commemorations. Students have explored different perspectives on Australia Day and learned about Chinese New Year. We've also discussed the differences between celebrations and commemorations, deepening our understanding of their significance in all cultures. We’re really looking forward to hearing their presentations later in Term 1!
Wellbeing
The students have fully settled into their classrooms and are kickstarting their mornings with wellbeing check-ins tied to the Zones of Regulation. They have started participating in exciting lessons from The Resilience Project, Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, and The Cyber Safety Project, where they’re learning to be mindful, respectful, and responsible citizens in both the digital and real world.
Thank you for all your all your help settling your children into their new classes. We have been really impressed with how well they have adapted to life in the senior school.

Level 4 News – A Fantastic Start to the Year!
Level 4 students have had an exciting and busy start to the year as they dive into a wide range of learning experiences. From new classmates and teachers to engaging activities and celebrations, there has been no shortage of excitement in the classroom!
Settling Into the New Year
The beginning of the school year is always filled with new faces, new routines, and new opportunities, and Level 4 students have been adjusting wonderfully. They have been getting to know their classmates, forming new friendships, and familiarising themselves with classroom routines. With a positive attitude, they have been embracing the changes and are off to a great start!
Maths Fun – Learning About Place Value and Decimals
In Maths, students have been focusing on place value and decimals. Through hands-on activities and discussions, they are gaining a deeper understanding of how numbers work, especially when it comes to larger and smaller values. They’ve been learning how to read, write, and compare decimal numbers, and their confidence in using these skills is growing every day.
Reading with Think-Aloud Strategy
In reading, Level 4 students are using the "think-aloud" strategy to deepen their comprehension. By verbalising their thoughts as they read, students are learning to engage more actively with texts and enhance their understanding. This method has helped them improve their critical thinking skills and build stronger connections with what they are reading.
Creative Writing – Bio Poems
The students have also been tapping into their creative side by writing "bio poems." This fun and reflective activity has allowed students to express who they are and what they value. It has also given them an opportunity to share with their peers what makes them unique.
Celebrating Cultures Around the World
Level 4 students have been exploring various celebrations from around the world. They’ve learned about Australia Day, Chinese New Year, the Songkran Festival, Holi, the Obon Festival, and La Tomatina. It has been a wonderful way for the students to gain a greater understanding of diverse cultures and traditions, while also appreciating the rich variety of customs celebrated across the globe.
Buddy Classes
In another exciting development, Level 4 students have had the opportunity to meet their buddy classes! They are building connections and working together on fun projects that promote teamwork and cooperation. It’s been heartwarming to see the students support each other and form bonds that will last throughout the year.
Sports and Swimming Carnival
Level 4 students have also been involved in the House Swimming Carnival, where they demonstrated great sportsmanship and enthusiasm. The friendly competition brought out the best in everyone, with many students cheering on their teammates and striving for their personal best. In addition, the students are actively participating in the Level 3 and 4 Sports Program, which is giving them a chance to develop their athletic skills and work collaboratively in team-based activities.
It has been an exciting start to the year, and Level 4 students are already showing their potential to grow, learn, and achieve great things. We can’t wait to see all the amazing accomplishments that lie ahead in this exciting journey!
