From the Deputy Principal

Throughout the long history of our Blue Mountains Grammar School community, parents have been pivotal not only in their children’s day-to-day learning but also as volunteers in their broader experience of school life. Any number of events and experiences we offer throughout the year are reliant on parents volunteering their time as coaches, drivers, learning assistants, cooks, servers and chaperones.

As part of our ongoing recovery from the COVID era, we are hoping to further expand opportunities for parents to volunteer to support learning and experiences for their children. Part of this process involves building a bank of parent volunteers for whom we have a record of interests, capacities and Working with Children Check status.

For this purpose, we will shortly be installing a “button” on the Parent Schoolbox Dashboard that will lead to a short form, through which parents can register as volunteers and provide us the information we need to organise teams of helpers for various events including Open Days, Camps, Excursions and the 45km Annual Charity Walk.

As an interim step, I invite parents to consider obtaining a volunteer Working With Children Check through Service NSW. A Volunteer WWCC is a free and simple process to undertake, and is a necessary first step if you are considering supporting your children as an official volunteer at a BMGS event.
