Inter-Boarding House Netball Competition

The first inter-Collegiate Boarding House sports competition was held this week. Monivae College’s Boarding House challenged our girls to a game of netball on their home soil. Although we were unable to gain a win, the real purpose was successful; bonding borders across the Hamilton region. Many of the girls already know each other, so it was pleasing to see a friendly competitive spirit. Our girls stayed for dinner and enjoyed making connections with girls from Edenhope, Horsham, and interstate. A huge congratulations to Pepper and Lily, who had taken on the role of organising the girls, umpires, and scorers.

Boarder of the Week

Donna Lee (L) and Mackenzie Ker (R)
Donna Lee (L) and Mackenzie Ker (R)

Our boarder of the week is Donna Lee. Donna resides in Melbourne and loves boarding. She has easily transitioned into the rhythm of boarding and excels in the environment. Donna was awarded Boarder of the Week for her positive example to all other girls in Macdonald House. She is constantly kind, thoughtful and welcoming to younger, new, or casual boarders. Donna has the ability to self-guide through the day and evening and be involved in activities on the weekends with others. Well done, Donna, and I hope the Mars Bar slice worked out well for you and Mackenzie.

Leaders presenting at dinner

Our prospective Boarding House Captains for 2026 presented this week in front of their ‘family’, or fellow boarders. What a privilege this has been for boarders and staff. Our Year 11 future leaders were very nervous, but they spoke with confidence and pride. Just standing in front of 80 of your boarding mates is courageous, and I congratulate all six. This innovative approach allows our boarders to hear directly from prospective leaders and then cast their vote with greater information and fairness. Each boarder has shared a unique perspective on boarding, highlighting how their strengths can benefit the boarding house and its residents. Dr Horne and all fellow staff could not be prouder.

Footy Theme Night dinner

With local football and netball finals on the minds of our boarders, it was a good opportunity to have a theme night supporting our AFL teams. Getting dressed up in your local or AFL football club theme was a great idea of Henry and Henrietta, but having our boarders sit together in their team colours across year levels, was excellent. Having boarders from different year levels chat amongst themselves on a familiar topic promotes the sense of family and community that continues to thrive in both Houses.
