PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Good afternoon,

I am very excited to be back on board and would like to take this opportunity to thank Sarah, Louisa, Steph along with Virginnia and Jason for their efforts over the past 6 weeks.

I am very lucky to be able to take leave due to the quality and experience of the leadership group we have here, along with all of our amazing staffing group.

I had the most amazing time and will happily share stories of the adventure.  One thing that stuck with me though was the positivity of locals throughout many Caribbean countries.  They kept calling themselves the ‘blessed’ or ‘how lucky we are’….. as we travelled through some pretty challenged (in my eyes) communities.  They often spoke of the abundance of fruits, vegetables and live produce they have at their feet, and how lucky and fortunate they are. It made me really reflect as to how we can complain or find fault so easily and to them they just saw opportunity and joy in their beautiful countries and what they have as a community. A timely reminder for myself.

Congratulations again to Louisa Blamires who commenced at Montpellier this week. We know she will do a great job and wish her all the best in this new Acting Assistant Principal role.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank the Grade 6 Fundraising Committee for their efforts with the PJ Day and special luncheon that took place on the last day of Term 2. This luncheon raised over $800 and I was super impressed to hear how hard these students worked in order to make this a successful day.

They are running a Toastie Truck luncheon on the last day of this term, along with Casual Dress Day theme of sports and footy colours day.  Go Team Fundraising!!

The Grade 6 Fundraising Committee has also set up ‘Cash for Cans’ fundraiser. Please see information via the Compass Newsfeed or further in this newsletter as to how you can support this.

Congratulations to EJ (Gr 6) on his success in the State Basketball and Football School Sport Australia Championships earlier this term and over the break.  To make a state team is amazing, to win a title is fantastic to win a double title is phenomenal! Well done EJ, and his parents for road tripping around QLD with him during this time.

Our next state competitor is Liam (Gr 6), in Golf.  Well done for making the selection Liam and I can’t wait to hear how this event goes later this year.

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 25th August to Friday 19 September 2025. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation. Access/login details will be provided via Compass News Feed next week.

I am preparing my costume for the Book Week Parade taking place on Thursday 21st August.   We look forward to seeing students dressed as their favourite book character for this event, commencing at 9:15am.

Two weeks after this Junior School Council host the Book Fair, 2nd - 4th September, whereby books will be on sale over a number of days in the Amphitheatre before school.  Thanks to Sue Nouwen for organising and coordinating this.

We have been receiving communications from concerned neighbours in relation to parents' use of the back laneways during pick up at 3:30pm each afternoon. It is important that we are not using this laneway to park cars, block driveways or carports please.  All parents are encouraged to collect children from Fairview or Huntington.  I also ask that all Chilwell community members speak to our neighbours respectfully and not become dismissive of their concerns.  They have every right to access their driveways, carports etc. and I would expect that our community show every respect in ensuring this takes place.

Thanks everyone.  Have a great week.

Kind regards,

Meg
