Catholic College Sale Shines at the 64th Yarram Eisteddfod

Catholic College Sale students lit up the stage across multiple days of the 64th Yarram Eisteddfod, delivering performances filled with talent, dedication, and professionalism. From solo vocalists to large ensembles, our students represented the College with pride—earning top results and glowing feedback from adjudicators along the way.

 

Day 1: A Strong Start for Our Vocalists

The opening day featured a full program of vocal solos, and our students wasted no time making their mark.

  • 12 Years & Under Vocal Solo:
    • Maggie Brennan (RA1) – 2nd place, praised for excellent vocal control.
    • Amelia Jinesh (AL2) – 1st place, recognised for her passionate and emotionally rich delivery.
  • 14 Years & Under Vocal Solo:
    • Amelia Jinesh – Equal 2nd place, demonstrating poise and quiet confidence.
  • 15 Years & Under Vocal Solo Novice:
    • Lachlan Marsh (CH6) – 1st place with a heartfelt rendition of “What About Me,” commended for tone and presence.
  • 16 Years & Under Vocal Solo:
    • Lachlan Marsh – Honourable Mention.
    • Emily Nock (PA5) – 3rd place with an original composition, praised for tone and sensitivity.
    • Aiden Ryan (DA7) – 1st place with “Viva La Vida,” recognised for energy, stagecraft, and flair.
  • 15 Years & Under Vocal Solo Popular:
    • Lachlan Marsh – Honourable Mention.
    • Aiden Ryan – 3rd place.
    • Amelia Jinesh – 1st place, rounding off an incredible three-win day.

Day 1 set the tone for the Eisteddfod, with Catholic College Sale students consistently impressing both audience and adjudicators.

 

Day 3: A Star-Studded Showcase

The third evening of competition raised the bar even higher, with performances marked by poise, creativity, and resilience.

  • 18 Years & Under Vocal Solo Popular:
    • Keenan Cruz (DA6) – Strong debut performance with guitar accompaniment.
    • Emily Nock (PA5) – 1st place for her polished, self-accompanied performance.
  • 18 Years & Under Vocal Solo:
    • Emily Nock – 1st place for her moving rendition of “Lighthouse.”
  • Open Sacred Vocal:
    • Amelia Jinesh – 1st place for “I Can Only Imagine,” praised for control and tonal colour.
  • Ada Crossley Open Vocal:
    • Emily Nock – 2nd place for “Hallelujah.”
    • Amelia Jinesh – 1st place for a powerful performance of “Shallow.”
  • Open Popular Section:
    • Aiden Ryan – Honourable Mention for “I Want to Break Free,” overcoming technical issues with flair and resilience.
    • Amelia Jinesh – 1st place with “She Used to Be Mine,” her third win of the evening.

The night concluded with Amelia being named Most Promising Vocalist, having won five first places from six performances across the competition.

 

Choir Success

Day 3 also saw our choirs step confidently into the spotlight, with outstanding results across multiple sections.

  • Choir/Vocal Ensemble Open:
    • CCS Show Choir – 1st place.
    • Mary Mackillop – 2nd place.
    • Lavalla – 3rd place.
  • Choir Secondary School Students Years 7–12:
    • Mary Mackillop – 1st place (by a single point).
    • CCS Sion Singers – 2nd place.
    • CCS Male Vocals Crew – 3rd place.
    • Lavalla & Sale College – unplaced but strong performances.

Special recognition goes to our student choral leaders Keenan Cruz and Haydn de Sair, who conducted the Sion Singers with professionalism and maturity. Haydn, in particular, was commended by other teachers for his excellent leadership in maintaining focus and silence backstage while the Male Vocals Crew performed.

These results further highlighted the depth of talent and teamwork within our College’s choral program, with Mr Roy’s guidance and the students’ dedication shining through.

 

Final Day: Ensemble Excellence

The closing day of the Eisteddfod saw our bands and ensembles take centre stage—and again, Catholic College Sale excelled.

  • Bertram Family Instrumental Band: CCS Concert Band – 2nd place.
  • Arthur Bunn Memorial Shield: CCS Ensemble (including Male Vocals Crew) – 1st place.
  • Instrumental/Percussion Ensemble: CCS Guitar Ensemble – Equal 1st place.
  • Rock Band Section (7 bands competing): Junior Rock Band – 3rd place; Senior Rock Band – Honourable Mention.

     

A Winning Note

The Eisteddfod was a true celebration of music, talent, and teamwork. From soloists making their debuts to seasoned performers pushing creative boundaries, Catholic College Sale students demonstrated artistry, resilience, and excellence at every stage.

 

A special thank you goes to, Ms Ann Roffe,  Mr Tom Cousin and Mr Roy Condeza for their guidance, support, and leadership in bringing our students to such a high standard.

With Yarram now behind us, we look ahead to the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod in Traralgon—ready to carry this momentum into another exciting showcase.
