10 D WORK EXPERIENCE 11th - 15th August

Macy - Seed Ability

During my week of work experience at Seed Ability I spent my time visiting clients and learning what happens in the Allied Health Industry focusing on Occupational Therapy. Throughout my work experience I saw many clients whether it was on site or in the clinic. In the sessions we would play with the client and focus on whatever their focus is. After each session we would do a reflection which summarises the visit, detailing observations and listing everything we did. I also learnt about all the software they use, how they mark assessments and many other things. While doing my work experience I found that you need to have good people skills, be interactive, empathetic, and patient. By the end of the week it had come clear to me that occupational therapy is something I want to do in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed my work experience and am very thankful that I had the opportunity to do so at Seed Ability Swan Hill.

Tye - Swan Hill District Health - IT Department

My work experience was incredibly insightful, my employers gave me an indefinite wealth of knowledge, they talked about their courses and applications they used in university and overall informed me of the career path I would need to take. Despite doing IT, I was almost never sitting behind a computer which I absolutely loved. I learned tons about what skills I required and the whole time ultimately decided my career path and that it was most definitely what I was looking for. I would like to thank LMSS and Swan Hill District Health for the wonderful opportunity.

Ella - Priceline Pharmacy

My work experience at Priceline Pharmacy Swan Hill was incredibly valuable and enjoyable. I gained insight into the pharmacy and retail industries, learning skills such as independence, active listening, teamwork, organisation, and professionalism. A highlight was being trusted to pack Webster packs independently and having great conversations with the team. I learned that strong communication, attention to detail, and confidentiality are essential in this field. This experience has opened my mind to pharmacy as a possible career path. I’m very grateful for the warm, supportive environment and thank Taylor Cameron and the entire team for this wonderful opportunity.

Charlie - St Mary’s Primary School Swan Hill & Mallee Physio

To start my week off I completed 2 days at St Mary Primary School Swan Hill in the PE department with Miss Clark. This was mainly spent teaching high jump to all year levels as they were preparing for their school athletics carnival. Thanks to Mrs Quin and Miss Clark for allowing me this opportunity.

For the remainder of the week I spent it at Mallee Physio, observing Physio appointments and getting in the therapy pool and helping out with people's recovery/fitness programs. For this job you need to know all things health about the body but most important is your people talking skills as you are dealing and consulting with people all day. I will definitely consider this as a future career option. A big thank you to Mitch and Annie for allowing me to experience this.

Daneka - Swan Hill District Health

During my week of work experience at Swan Hill District Health I spent my time in 5 different nursing wards. By far my favourite part of my week was Wednesday when I got to spend my day in Theatre. I was lucky enough to be inside the theatre room watching a herniorrhaphy and scopes. l enjoyed being able to see the whole process from admitting the patient to following through their surgery followed by their aftercare. During my time there I identified the key skills needed for the job were having good communication, empathy, fast thinking and being calm in stressful situations. This experience has helped confirm my interest in theatre nursing as I enjoyed the more fast paced environment as well as the blood and gauze.

Overall I had a very positive experience and hope to one day become a nurse. I would like to thank Jane and all the staff for giving me this opportunity and for supporting me during my work experience week.

“Set Your Heart on a Career in Accounting & Financial Services”

Work Experience Week: 2nd to 5th of September 2025

Seven of our Year 10 students this week took part in the Set Your Heart on a Career in Accounting & Financial Services Work Experience Week 2025, coordinated by the Murray Mallee Local Learning & Employment Network (MMLLEN).

Throughout the week, students worked alongside local professionals, learning how to use Xero Accounting Software to generate invoices, building spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, and even gaining insight into how accountants prepare tax returns and provide financial advice. Today the students took part in a tour of financial service businesses in Swan Hill’s CBD which gives students a closer look at the many career pathways available in the industry as well as within our local community.

The week finished with a Graduation Luncheon, where students celebrated their achievements and heard from a guest speaker about opportunities in finance.

A big thank you to the local firms who supported the program:

  • Dodgshun Medlin
  • GMG Financial Group
  • Logan & Hall
  • Pooles Accountants & Tax Specialists.
