2025 MERINO SHEEP CHALLENGE

MRS RIANNE QUAIFE - YEAR  9/10 AGRICULTURE TEACHER

Technology: Agriculture, Food and Fibre

This year, Year 9/10 Agriculture students proudly participated in the 2025 Merino Sheep Challenge, a hands-on program that gave us the opportunity to care for and prepare livestock for competition. Over the course of 8 months, students worked with six Merino wethers, learning essential skills in animal husbandry, nutrition, and handling.

A key focus of the program was lead training the wethers to ensure they were calm and responsive in the show ring. Students also gained valuable insight into how sheep are judged both on wool quality and confirmation and on carcass value, providing a comprehensive understanding of the qualities sought after in prime Merino sheep.

The challenge culminated at the Clunes, where our school competed against other schools in the region. Ten students represented our Agriculture program on the day, proudly leading and presenting the sheep in front of judges and spectators.
