“Never see a need without doing something about it.”
- St Mary MacKillop
As we move through the school year, it is important to take time to reflect not only on academic achievements, but also on the values that shape our students as young people of character. Two themes that have stood out recently in our school community are dignity and student leadership, and how they intersect in powerful ways.
Dignity, at its core, is about recognising the inherent worth of every individual. It’s about how we treat each other - with respect, compassion, and fairness - even when we disagree or face challenges. In our school, we are committed to cultivating a culture where every student feels seen, valued, and safe to express who they are. We encourage students to speak and act in ways that uplift rather than diminish, and we’re proud of the many moments we see this lived out daily in classrooms, the playground, and beyond.
It’s also through the lens of dignity that we approach student leadership. Leadership is not simply about holding a title or wearing a badge - it’s about service, responsibility, and influence. Whether it's our school captains, peer mentors, house leaders, or those who quietly lead by example, we strive to develop students who lead with integrity, empathy, and a deep respect for others.
Recently, our student leaders have been involved in several initiatives that reflect these values. From leading assemblies and facilitating peer support sessions, to participating in community projects, they are learning that leadership is about lifting others up and creating space for everyone to thrive. Importantly, they are also learning that true leadership begins with how they carry themselves - with humility, respect, and a commitment to doing what is right, even when it is not easy.
As parents and carers, your role in this journey is invaluable. Conversations at home about respectful relationships, ethical choices, and what it means to treat others with dignity reinforce the lessons we are teaching at school. Thank you for your ongoing support in nurturing these values in your children.
Next week application forms for 2026 student leadership positions will be available to all Year 11 students who wish to make a difference in our school. Please feel free to encourage your child to become a leader in our school and grab an application from the Pastoral Care Centre next week.
Together, let’s continue to build a school community where dignity is at the heart of every interaction, and where every student has the opportunity to lead and be led in meaningful and inclusive ways.
