Year 6 SunSprint Challenge
Recently, a group of nine boys from Year 6 competed at the SunSprint Challenge at UNSW.
This challenge was about making solar powered boats and/or cars; we were split into teams of three and told to make a solar powered boat, which would be competing in a 10-metre race.
After weeks of designing and building with Mr Viney, the big day arrived! We were all very excited and looking forward to seeing our boats race.
Luckily, our team won the first round, but unfortunately, the other teams didn’t progress. In the second round we also won by luck as the other boat didn’t finish the race!
We were in the quarter finals, and this was the most heated race yet, the other boat shot forward at the start, and we were close behind, but as the race progressed our boat closed the gap, and we touched the finish line a moment before theirs. Cheers erupted from the St Pat’s supporters.
Thank you to Mrs Chander, Ms Mazoudier and Mr Viney. Overall, the SunSprint Challenge was a great learning opportunity and a fun day for everyone.
