Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

With the end of year just around the corner I would like to say a big thank you to Junior School community for all their support of the Co-curricular program this year. We have much to be thankful for and celebrate this year. Our three major carnivals were very successful, congratulations to Hanrahan for winning both the Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals and to Berg for winning Athletics. There were a large number of undefeated teams across the codes and a solid contingent of teams that came oh so close, only losing one game over their seasons.

To all our award winners through the summer and winter seasons, well done. It is only through the efforts of the team that the individual can be recognised. So, in many ways, all our award winners depend on their teammates, and they can consider themselves award winners as well.

The 2026 summer season will commence with trials in Week 2 of Term 1. Monday we will see Touch Football, Basketball, Tennis and Cricket trials being held, with Softball trials to follow on Tuesday afternoon. Those boys selected in Basketball will then have a grading session on Saturday. All boys are expected to trial irrespective of making a team in 2025.

At this time of year, you would expect sport to settle down and wind down slowly to Christmas. However, this is not the case in the Junior School. Over the weekend we had two students compete in major competitions. Malietau Davis of 6 Black competed in the Nationals for athletics. Competing in discus, Malietau had a nervous start in his heat, but with one great throw pushed himself to fifth place and qualified for the final. In a very talented field, Malietau finished eighth. An outstanding effort. I know the College community will join me in congratulating Malietau.

Samuel Udit of 5 Green spend the weekend playing Rugby in the Pasifika Cup, representing Fiji for the first time. Samuel is very proud of his heritage and was honored by his selection. He describes his experience below.

This experience to play for Fiji in the Pasifika cup was once in a lifetime. Even though we lost 3 games it was a pleasure to play against other fellow Pacific countries and represents my country. Playing in such a massive tournament helped me learn and improve my gameplay. The competition was tough, but I stayed focused and confident playing in such a big event it helped me learn about teamwork, discipline, and handling pressure on the field. Overall, the Pasifika Cup was an unforgettable experience that helped me grow as a player and gave me so many everlasting memories I'll never forget.

Samuel

Wishing everyone a blessed Christmas and safe New Year. To the boys in Year 6, all the best as you transition into the Senior School and begin the next phase of your journey in Year 7. To all the boys in Year 5, I look forward to your leadership of the Junior School and successes in sport in 2026.
