Week 7 & 8 Updates

Performing Arts

All classes have been working hard to polish their performances for the upcoming concert. We’ve finalised stage positions and spent time practising smooth, confident transitions on and off the stage.

Students have also been exploring what makes a strong performer — focusing on expression, clarity, timing, and teamwork — as well as what it means to be a respectful and supportive audience member.

It's been awesome to see many students coming out at lunchtime each day to practise their dances together. It’s been wonderful to see different year levels watching, sharing, and even trying each other’s choreography — a real highlight of the lead-up to the concert.

Everyone is showing great enthusiasm and progress, and we can’t wait to share their performances with you soon!

Physical Education

On Friday the 21st of November we had our annual Prep - 3 Sport's Day and it was an awesome experience for the students where they got to participate in softball, basketball, cricket, soccer, AFL and some novelty races.

The enthusiasm, sportsmanship and support for one another during the day was an incredible sight to see! Here are some snapshots of the day.

We are also excited to announce that the 5/6 students will be attending a Surf Lifesaving Day at Altona Beach on Wednesday the 10th of December. It will be a day full of learning about water safety at the beach, as well as a fun carnival play at the end of the day. Please parents and guardians get your consent and payment done on Compass to ensure your child attends.

Visual Arts

We are in full Art Show mode and the excitement is building as students prepare and create some truly wonderful pieces for our upcoming exhibition!

I’m currently looking for helpers for “Framing Friday” on Friday 7th November and Friday 14th November to assist with framing student artwork. We’ll meet in the Art Room from 2:00 pm onwards. If you’re available, please reach out, I’d appreciate your help!

During Art Show Week, I’ll also be seeking volunteers to assist with set-up on Tuesday 2nd, Wednesday 3rd, Thursday 4th of December. Even an hour or two of your time would make a huge difference and be greatly appreciated. More details will be shared soon!

Our Prep students have been learning all about echidnas! They explored the school garden to collect beautiful fallen leaves, which they used to design and create their own nature-made echidnas. Keep an eye out for these adorable creatures hiding in the Art Show!

Grade 1 and 2 students have been busy creating striking silhouette trees with foil texture transfers and chalk backgrounds. They learned how multiple elements can come together in one artwork to create depth and detail. To finish, they designed and built their own imaginative treehouses, their creativity and attention to detail have been outstanding!

Grades 3 and 4 have begun exploring the unique art of weaving, creating lizards inspired by the Tjanpi Desert Weavers, an organisation that supports Aboriginal women from remote Central and Western desert communities in earning an income through fibre art. Students are using natural materials to bring their woven lizards “down by the creek” to life.

Our Grade 5 and 6 students have just completed their foil insect artworks, adding details with paint pens to make their creations truly pop. The results are absolutely amazing, such impressive work from all students.

STEM

This week in STEM, the students have been experimenting with coding and game design! Preps, Year 1 and 2s have been exploring OctoStudios, learning the basics of coding by starting to create their own interactive games. Meanwhile, Years 3 and 4 have been busy building cities in Minecraft, using their creativity to design their worlds while beginning to explore coding through Minecraft Education. Years 5 and 6 have started to design and create games using Scratch. Their goal will be to create a game that is tailored for a younger year level.

It’s been great to see so much creativity and teamwork as the students start to use code and learn new skills!
