Learning and Teaching

Great Learning Conversations!

Last week, our Learning Conversations provided a positive opportunity for teachers and families to discuss student progress and future goals ahead of the end-of-year reports, which will be provided on Friday 12 December. It was a warm and productive atmosphere across both afternoons and evenings, and we sincerely appreciate the many families who made the time to attend. These conversations play an important role in strengthening the partnership between home and school so that every child is supported to flourish. We also extend our thanks to our dedicated staff for their ongoing commitment during this busy period.

Year 1 STEM Insight

In Year 1, students have been exploring the engineering aspect of STEM through a series of hands-on design challenges. They investigated how triangles are one of the strongest shapes in engineering and used this knowledge to support their creations as they planned, built, tested, and refined their ideas. Students strengthened skills such as collaboration, creative problem-solving, and evaluating the success of their designs. Teamwork has been a vital part of the learning, and students quickly discovered how listening, sharing ideas, and adjusting plans together lead to stronger structures and stronger thinking.

The classroom has been full of energy and determination, with students proudly reflecting on their achievements. As Javin shared, "I like the way that we make towers go high even though it can be very challenging." Aaron added, "I like joining the pipe connectors, and I think we made the world's tallest tower which is the Burj Khalifa." Riley explained, "We planned to make a big cube and then add a thin, tall tower on top," while Margarette noted, "The triangle is the strongest shape and I used it to hold a stack of books." These activities highlight how engineering thinking encourages persistence, curiosity, and cooperation, all of which are invaluable skills both in school and in real life.
