Around the Primary Classrooms

Year 3: A Term of Discoveries and Adventure!
Term 4 is off to an exhilarating start for our Year 3 students! They've dived headfirst into a fantastic range of activities, making the most of every opportunity for learning and fun. A major highlight was the thrilling Forensic Science Incursion where our students transformed into brilliant detectives, using real-life techniques to solve a mystery. They explored the fascinating world of fingerprints, examined coins as evidence, utilized blue lights to uncover hidden clues, and magnified details using digital microscopes.
Learning also went beyond the classroom with a memorable trip to the Botanical Gardens to see 'The Lizard of Aus', a performance that taught them about Australian wildlife. We also celebrated our beloved elders during Grandparents Day in Week 2, a beautiful occasion for sharing stories. Safety was a key focus, with students participating in the intensive Learn to Swim program during Week 3, and receiving a special visit from Firefighter Drew during Fire Safety Week to learn vital lessons about fire prevention. On the sporting field, the Primary Athletics Carnival saw our Year 3 students showcasing their talents, determination, and great sportsmanship.
It has been a whirlwind of engaging activities and we look forward to what the rest of the term will bring!
Student Support and Intervention
At Mount Carmel, we are committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive in their learning. This term, we continue to run a range of evidence-based small-group programs designed to boost students’ literacy skills in a targeted and supportive environment. Programs such as Language Lift, Spelling Mastery, and InitiaLit provide structured, research-backed instruction that helps students build strong foundations in vocabulary, spelling, phonemic awareness, reading fluency, and comprehension.
These small-group interventions allow us to tailor learning to students’ specific needs, give them additional practice in key skills, and build confidence in the classroom. We work closely with classroom teachers to monitor progress and ensure students are supported both in the intervention group and in their daily classroom learning.
We are proud of the progress our students are making and look forward to continuing to strengthen their literacy journey through these targeted programs.
