Year 9/10 Touch Football Premiers

It was a fairytale ending for the Year 10 Touch Football team who yesterday were crowned Premiers of the Year 9/10 Touch Football competition.  Many of the team have been playing touch football for Mount Carmel since Year 5, and so too for Coach Macy Bresnehan, who has been with them the whole way.

The Grand Final was a thriller against Sacred Heart College, with the play going end to end and try for try.  Eventually it was Mount Carmel that came away with a 5 to 4 victory.

Congratulations to the following players, Indiana Clayton, Antonette Conrades, Ivy Bresnehan, Lola Helmers, Matilda Forrest, Ruby Kaye, Amelia Lockley, Aysha Lloyd, Gabi Hughes and Matilda Hall, and their wonderful coach and alumni Macy Bresnehan.

The Year 9 team played St Mary’s College in the playoff for 3rd on Wednesday afternoon.  They did an amazing job, and we are proud of their efforts to play with just the bare numbers. Unfortunately, they had a loss but will be satisfied with a 4th place finish.  Thanks to Zelah Dutta-Nielsen for her support with the team.

A Mount Carmel Year 3/4 Teeball team competed in the JSSATIS competition this term for the first time since 2020. It was a steep learning curve for the players, but they approached every game with enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go. The students had a fantastic time trying a sport that was quite different from what they were used to, and enjoyed the opportunity to challenge themselves and have fun along the way.  Many thanks to Erica Hutchinson and Zoe Florusse for supporting the students to participate.

Triathlon

The College participated in both the Secondary and Primary Schools Triathlons at Bellerive Beach, on Thursday and Friday last week. Students could opt in to the individual event in the morning, and/or choose either the Swim, Bike or Run leg and compete as a team in the afternoon.

22 students from Years 7 - 9 took part in very challenging, cool, windy conditions on Thursday, which they handled so well.  Then it was the Primary’s turn on Friday.  9 students tested their endurance in the individual event, and another 49 joined for the team's events in the afternoon. Working together in small groups, students supported one another, shared responsibilities and celebrated each leg of the race with enthusiasm and encouragement. In the end, it was two fantastic days of energy, teamwork and resilience, with our students truly embracing the spirit of the event.

Our students embodied the Mount Carmel College values through their actions. They showed courage by stepping outside their comfort zones, compassion by cheering on peers and helping others, respect through their sportsmanship, and excellence in their effort, attitude and participation.Triathlon is a gruelling event, and we are very proud of the efforts and fighting spirit from all competitors. The students represented the College with such positivity and pride. The event was massive, with over 3000 students participating, and many more parents and spectators adding to the atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff and families who supported the event, ensuring our students had a memorable and rewarding experience.

This week, the new Women’s National Basketball League team, the Tasmania Jewels, was announced, set to enter the competition in 2026. To celebrate what this will mean for young girls in Tasmania, students from local schools were invited to take part in a free basketball clinic on Thursday afternoon with Jack Jumpers star players Tyger Campbell and Nick Marshall. Year 3 students Ainsley Steed, Eden Brennan, Stella Banks-Smith and Stella Pedersen were the lucky participants from Mount Carmel and absolutely loved the experience.

Uniform and Equipment

If you are still holding any Mount Carmel College owned sports uniform, equipment or first aid kits, please return to the College Office as soon as possible.  We are also happy to accept donations of representative sports uniforms to lend to students for rosters and carnivals.
