Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Year 5/6 Newsletter – Eltham North Primary School
Dear 5/6 Parents,
As we move into the final stretch of Term 4, the Year 5/6 team would like to share some highlights from the classroom and important upcoming dates. It has been a wonderfully productive and engaging term, and the students should be proud of all they have achieved.
English
Our Literacy Circles have wrapped up for the term, with students completing their final group meetings last week. They are now moving into reflection activities based on their group texts and will be engaging in a range of creative individual and group tasks to demonstrate their understanding.
In Writing, students have completed their unit on persuasive letter writing—many strong arguments were made! We are now moving into biography writing. Students will be writing biographies about themselves, but in third-person style, just as a biographer would.
Mathematics
After a huge effort working through fractions, decimals and percentages this term, we are finishing the year by exploring:
- Time – including 24-hour time and reading timetables
- Probability – conducting experiments, analysing outcomes, and comparing theoretical and experimental results
The students have shown great persistence and growth across all areas of maths this term.
Inquiry
The work and enthusiasm that have gone into the Earn & Learn markets has been outstanding—many budding entrepreneurs have truly shone! We are excited for the second market, which will be held on Thursday of Week 9 (6th December).
