Year 3/4 - Newsletter

Dear parents / caregivers,

What's happened in 3/4 this fortnight?

English – In Writing, students have selected one of the following topics to write a persuasive letter to Tandy, convincing her to agree with their opinion:

  • Everyone should have a pet
  • Weekends should be three days long
  • The best superpower is…
  • Students should have a mobile phone

We have finished reading The Wild Robot in class, and to conclude our novel study, each year level will watch The Wild Robot movie. For the remainder of the term, students will take part in creative writing tasks—with a twist! In Morphology, we have focused on the suffixes -ian and -ist (meaning “a person who”) and the Latin root struct (meaning “build”). In Grammar, students have been learning how to punctuate direct speech when the speaker tag comes before the dialogue.

Maths – Over the past fortnight, students have been learning about length, mass, capacity, and temperature. They have explored the difference between informal and formal units and practised using both. Students measured the length, mass, or capacity of various classroom items and discussed which units are most appropriate for different types of measurement.

Inquiry - Last week we focused on the continent South America. The students researched and continued to build on their presentation from previous weeks on the animals and plants that live, survive, and grow in Africa and South America.

This week’s Inquiry was all about our country presentations. We have loved seeing our students present their research and talk about their African and South American countries with confidence and pride. We have certainly learnt a lot this week and are absolutely blown away by what our students have produced for their at home project and presentations. Thank you for assisting your child to complete this task.

Please note, the two David Attenborough documentaries we will be showing are from his 'Seven Worlds, One Planet' series. Both have a PG classification, however do show some mild predatory animal behaviour. Please contact your child's teacher should you or your child have any concerns.
