Whats happening at MRC

EARLY YEARS
Grade 3C
3C have been building their numeracy skills through engaging number activities. Students are strengthening their understanding of number concepts, practising problem solving strategies.
Prep D have been taking advantage of the warm weather by heading outdoors to practise their letter formation skills. Using paintbrushes and water on the concrete, students have been reinforcing correct letter shapes in a fun, hands-on way. 🌞
Prep D - Build it, write it, trace it
Year 5 Excursion to Werribee Zoo
During the recent Excursion to the Zoo, our grade 5 students had the opportunity to reinforce their understanding of animal adaptations. They explored how animals, both past and present, have unique features that help them survive in their environments.
The students had hands-on experiences analyzing animal skulls, exploring artifacts, and visiting different zoo habitats. These activities allowed them to connect what they’ve learned in the classroom with the real world. By observing and classifying animals, they gained a deeper understanding of how all living things are interconnected and rely on delicate ecosystems to thrive.
Year 6 Term 1 Excursion: Sovereign Hill
On 24th of February, 2026 the Year 6 cohort travelled to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat for an excursion linked to our Humanities unit. The visit supported students’ learning about the Gold Rush and the Eureka Stockade by providing rich, hands-on experiences.
Students participated in an education session exploring Aboriginal people on the goldfields. The session examined the impact of 19th-century European colonisation on Ballarat’s Aboriginal community. Students handled artefacts, completed a walking tour of the goldfields, and responded to questions to extend their understanding.
During the excursion, students also ventured underground into the mines to explore quartz and experience the life of a miner. The tour involved navigating confined spaces with low ceilings, narrow passageways and dark lighting, helping students understand the challenging conditions miners worked in while searching for gold.
Students had opportunities to visit the various shops, purchase food and souvenirs, and take part in activities such as candle making and lolly making. They also participated in gold panning at One Eye Gully, where they were provided with the equipment needed to search for gold in the creek. This highly engaging hands-on activity saw many students discover small specks of gold to take home.
Overall, the excursion was a valuable learning experience that allowed Year 6 students to deepen and build upon their understanding of the Gold Rush and the Eureka Stockade.
Grade 7C
The year 7’s have been learning about Physics in term 1. In particular they have been focusing on forces. 7C recently completed an investigation into gravity and air resistance by creating parachutes, testing drop time and calculating averages of the drop times. They had heaps of fun learning about gravity and air resistance.
Year 10 Humanities: Geography – Our Planet, Our Issue, Local Excursion – Malcom Creek
Year 07 Humanities: Civics and Citizenship, Incursion – Guest Speaker: The Mayor of Hume City, Cr. Carly Moore
ABCN excursion
Students recently participated in the Emerging Leaders excursion in the city, where they had the opportunity to develop important self-leadership skills and explore what it means to take initiative and lead in everyday situations. Throughout the day, students engaged with professional mentors who shared their personal leadership journeys and experiences. These inspiring conversations encouraged students to reflect on their own strengths, build confidence, and think about their future goals. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained valuable insights and leadership skills that will support their personal growth and development.
VCE VM - Grand Prix 2026
