This week, our school community joyfully celebrated Shrove Tuesday with a delicious pancake morning tea. A team of students, guided by our wonderful Ebony, helped bake the pancakes, which were then enjoyed by students with a variety of toppings. It was a wonderful way to come together as a community and mark the beginning of the Lenten season.

On Ash Wednesday, staff and students attended Mass to begin our Lenten journey. We warmly applaud Seb, Hunter, Morgan, Millee and Luke for their willingness to participate in the readings with minimal notice. During the Mass, students received ashes on their foreheads, a ritual that symbolises our desire to turn back to God, reflect on our actions and remember the call to repentance and renewal.

As we enter the season of Lent, we bring our attention to its three pillars: prayer, almsgiving and fasting. This year, as we do every year, our school supports Caritas’ Project Compassion, with the theme “Unite us against poverty.” Project Compassion helps communities around the world overcome challenges such as poverty, inequality and injustice, and provides practical support for those in need. If you would like to donate any spare change to support this important work, please send it in with your child. Later in the term, students will also participate in a school fundraiser to further support this charity.

St Joseph's acknowledges that we are learning on Taungurung land and we pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

While we participate in being lifelong learners, let us reflect upon the beautiful waterways of the Taungurung land and bring the calming flow of the water into our space and learning.
