ATTENDANCE:
We are pleased to share that our learner attendance across the school has had a strong start to Term 1, with our whole-school attendance currently sitting at approximately 94% across Weeks 1, 2 and 3. This reflects the continued commitment of our learners and families to learning and being present each day.
In 2025, our school finished the year with an overall attendance rate of 93%. This year, we are aiming higher, with a school-wide goal of achieving 95%attendance and above. Reaching this target will have a significant positive impact on student learning, wellbeing, and achievement.
Many year levels are already achieving attendance rates in the mid to high 90% range, which is encouraging and shows that we are moving in the right direction. Year Two have led the way with multiple days seeing 100% attendance, fabulous work!
Every day at school matters! Regular attendance supports strong learning habits, positive relationships, and a sense of belonging within our school community. We thank families for their ongoing partnership and support. Together, we can continue to build on this strong start and work towards reaching our +95% goal in 2026!
If you are experiencing any barriers in getting your child to school, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at lchapman@smechuca.catholic.edu.au. SME is here to support families and work together to ensure every child has the best opportunity to attend and engage in learning.
BEHAVIOUR
Since the start of the year with Classroom Mastery, we have seen a significant reduction in incidents across all areas of our behaviour tracking. Our learners are engaged, responding well to predictable routines, and overall, the number of incidents has decreased considerably. Comparing weeks 1–4 this year to Term One of last year, the data indicates a 65.66% reduction in undesirable behaviours. We would like to commend our learners for adhering to SME rules and making positive choices. Excellent work!
Despite this positive progress, we are still observing instances of defiance. We ask for families’ support in having open conversations at home that reinforce the importance of following instructions in the classroom. Physical behaviours will not be tolerated and may result in parent meetings, agreed contracts of behaviour, individual behaviour plans, and, if necessary, suspension.
We look forward to continuing this positive momentum in both attendance and behaviour, working together as a school community to ensure every learner thrives and achieves their full potential!
Kindest,
Liz Chapman
